The place I stayed in was a beautiful, rustic style house. Comfortable, clean and close to a market, great cafe and close to the ocean. Alec gave me great directions that were easy navigate. When I got lost, a quick phone call to Alec brought me in the last street, turned out I was within sight. I would recommend this place.
My husband and I arrived at this place in Todo Santos after prepaying and booking quite far in advance. I did email Alec a few times in regards to driving a rental car to his place, which he said was fine. The instructions that we were given, were hard to follow, and it took us awhile to find it. If you are taking a rental car, I would suggest something with a lot of clearance, such as a 4 wheel drive. When we arrived, we were told that the key would be in our casa, which it was.The screen was off the window, very tired linens with stains, mold in the coffee maker, and filthy barbeque. Actually the entire place felt run down. We wanted to speak to Alec, but he wasn't there. We promptly got into our car and left. We ended up staying in a hotel in town for a couple of nights until we found another rental on our own for the month. This all was at a much higher and unexpected cost for us. I realize that this is rated as an economical spot, but economical doesn't mean run down and dirty.
We really enjoyed staying at this property. Alec was very friendly and accommodating. The setting is beautiful. Being able to bring our 4-legged friend along was much appreciated. His dogs, Linda and Manchas were great too. They will show you the way to the beach!
I should have written a review the first time my wife and I first stayed here last year. After our 2nd stay this last January, I really want to express what a charming and restful place Casa Rancho is. The grounds and rooms are beautiful. The owners are very nice and make you feel right at home. The rooms are quiet, comfortable, and tastefully designed. You even get a huge iron key ( I can't recall the name they have for them) to lock you door. This little item is a great example of the Spanish charm the entire grounds have. We spent our days cooking and lounging by the pool drinking margaritas flavored with passion fruit that is there for the picking ( we asked first). So if you ever want to experience Mexico outside of the touristy scene, start here. You may never leave. We didn't want to. And be sure to say hello to Manchez and Linda, the best dogs in all of Mexico! Thanks Alec and Monica. We will be back.
The simple casita concept of having your own room and sharing a common kitchen is at its best here, especially if you appreciate the warmth of a good host and small details like the gorgeous gardens and the opportunity to enjoy quiet morning yoga on the water-view patio.
This is the real Mexico with desert roads, elbow room, and a crowing rooster every now and again -- in other words: a low maintenance desert getaway.
This is not for the snob at heart, the older rooms show just enough heartfelt wear and tear to be a real home, the newer rooms have great details, this is a place where you can kick up your feet and not worry when you track a little sand onto the patio, it'll be tidy again in no time.
The sheets and towels are just fine, mostly new and very clean actually, the dishes in the kitchen are nice and our group of nine cooked and ate well at the outdoor dining table where we also did art projects and had a few games of dominoes.
The rooms feel real, not a contrived Mexican getaway, this is an actual casa and if you take time to appreciate the textures and colors your heart will melt and your mind will relax. There are tiny touches of whimsy with art and design such as a hidden kitty face on a ceiling and dog paw prints on the patio - perfectly imperfect and homey .
The authentic palapa roofs are really beautiful as is the old woodwork and the heavy doors.
There is a quiet calm over the property, a really special feeling -- and yes, sometimes the neighbors dogs bark, but we're in their neighborhood now, so just relax and take in the warmth.
Hmmm...we're supposed to mention any complaints or suggestions...The only thing it lacked was a good martini shaker and our ability to stay another week or two! And yes, we'll be back.
