“Doesn't get any better”

This place is idyllic. The house sits in beautifully landscaped grounds sited right on the beach of the Sea of Cortez. Looking out from the rocking chairs on the deck, the view is of private very blue pool, bougainvillea lined fence between house and beach and special plantings and trees.
The inside of the house is modern, comfortably furnished and equipped with everything one could want, including powerful binoculars to watch the many birds. There is no TV, a plus for me, and my husband was ale to go to the next door restaurant when he needed a dose of the tube. It was so restful, we often didn't leave the house except to eat.

Bev, the property manager, is extraordinarily helpful and knowledgeable. She told us where to go for things we wanted and gave us detailed directions for getting there.

The house is located about 15 kilometers outside the ton of La Paz, meaning a car rental is necessary. This wasn't a problem for us, since there were a number of small shops and restaurants nearby, not to mention a Walmart just a few minutes away.

Our only problem was finding Bev's house in the dark. Although her directions were excellent, it was impossible to see her sign and road in the dark. This can be easily improved by a more visible sign.

This was probably the best R&R vacation we've ever had.

Stayed here last week of Jan, 15. Incredible place, great attention to detail. Very private (esp if house next door is empty.) I love the lap pool. Everything is spacious, large great room, large bedroom, nice bathroom. Perfect for 2 people. Appreciate the recliner, the excellent interior lighting, the view of the bay right out in front of property. The attention to security, on main road but locked gate and set way back, hardly hear road. Nice kitchen, plenty of cooking tools. And, the extra benefit of a great, helpful, local English speaking manager (Bev). You'll love it.

“Honest review! (Nice place to relax with some flaws) must read”

My fiance and I( a couple in our 20's and 30's) just returned a few days ago from a 7 night stay at the Casita. We flew into San Jose airport and rented a car then drove to La Paz.

PROS
*Very nice property (much better in person than in pictures we were impressed)
*Very nicely landscaped and well taken care of gardener does a good job, lots of palms
*Spacious property,5 sun lounger beds, table and seating area outside with shade, hammock, and eating area on the deck, plus 2 rocking chairs.
*Very efficient air conditioning always kept us cold almost too cold sometimes we had to shut it off and most nights slept with it off or on low as it got too cold sometimes.
*Decent kitchen and living room, comfortable sofa and recliner
*No password required for the WIFI,internet was very fast and work well all the time :)
*Lots of windows for natural light very nice in the morning
*Bathroom has a separate Jacuzzi bath tub and separate rain shower which had great pressure :)
* The owner Installed an additional water purification system,so it is safe to brush teeth with tap water and safe for drinking.(Although most of time we drank bottled water simply out of convenience)
*Sofa turns into a bed,for additional guests.the casita is very spacious you could easily fit another bed in the master bedroom or an airbed.
*We saws lots of little geckos and a few larger lizards, iguana and different types of birds.
*Pool was not heavily chlorinated so it does not dry the skin out, just keeps the water clean,we left 2 blowup pool loungers for future guest to use, they are nice to lay on in the pool in the day and tan,and at night are nice for floating weightlessly around the pool looking up at the stars,so relaxing :)
*There is a convenient store right next store the OXXO which is believe is open 24 hours and has a bank machine, there are also a few restaurants near by.

CONS
Please note the Casita is not actually in La Paz,it is a good 25 minute drive to La Paz which doesn't seem that bad but going back and forth becomes time consuming. We were under the impression the Casita was in La Paz, the Casita is outside of the city located in a highway, their are a few other homes on either side (about 5 maybe)
*the casita is located on a highway with lots of cars and semis passing by all the time, although it was not noisy, I believe there is a truck stop just down the road as we noticed many semis parked there on the regular.
*I'm not trying to freak anyone out and its no a huge deal BUT, there was a little but of a cockroach problem,we dealt with it the best we could but we did find a few cockroaches in the house 1 in the bathroom and 2 in bedroom,we removed them from the house .We suspect they were there before came, probably because someone left the sliding glass door open without the screen on.So be sure to keep the doors and window shut or at least keep the screen closed at all times to prevent them from getting in,we thought maybe a bit of a control program would help top cut down on the number of them as we saw a fair amount of of them just outside the casita at night, which is pretty normal and not the end of the world by any means, however spraying bug poison to kill them may harm the natural ecosystem around the casita and the wildlife living there,as there are many little geckos and lizards birds etc.So just keep the screen shut and do not leave food out at all. Please note that there will be cockroaches pretty much everywhere in hot and tropical climates and we have encountered them before in our travels. We also found two little geckos inside the casita :) they seem scared of people and will not bother you at all, they eventually migrated to the living room where it was pretty cool since the air conditioning was on,so we opened the door and helped them to get outside so that they wouldn't die from the cold of the air conditioning, they are happier in the warmth.
There is no real grocery stores near by you will need to go into La Paz for that,so if your like us and want to cook at home at least some of the time this is a bit of an inconvenience,Also you have limited restaurants to choose from in the area the casita is in.If you want to go to some of the best restaurants you need to drive into La Paz.
Also if you want to visit Balandra or Tecolote beach keep in mind its going to be a good 45-50 minute drive from the Casita maybe longer depends on traffic.
The system set up for locking the gate not great and is inefficient and unsafe. There is a small lock and key like one you would use for a school locker, to unlock the gate and drive out. First you have to drive up get out of the car unlock it,get back in drive out then get back out and lock it again, this became a bit annoying we felt it was very inefficient. We suggest the owner install a remote control system to open and lock and unlock the gate or a system which has a code to lock it for safety.
The casita has no alarm or security system set up which surprised us,I know its a fairly safe area but its still Mexico.. We saw other homes in the area with high gates an walls with barbwire on the tops and metal bars on the windows and doors.Even here in Canada we have a home security/Alarm system set up.You cannot put a price on safety and peace of mind.

All in all despite all the driving back and forth we had to do since we wanted to go to the beaches and restaurants, grocery stores, the malecon etc.We did have a good time and enjoyed our stay at the casita and felt we had a fairly relaxed vacation there. Would we recommend the casita to a friend or family?.. maybe it depends what they wanted to do while visiting the area,if the beach is important to you and you want to go everyday like we did then you might want stay in La Paz a little closer. If you just want to relax in the pool and hot-tub and the beach isn't a huge priority then the casita is perfect for you.
Also note the casita is on a beach but it is not a nice beach like balandra beach and it is not swimmable its just nice to look at :)
Just a side note, the pans for cooking were not great they just were just your basic aluminium pans which we are not comfortable with using due to the safety concerns of aluminum. We purchased 2 cast iron pans to use while we there and we left both of them at the casita for others to use.The microwave did not work while we were there and we let Burt know the next morning,he said he would have someone in to fix it,but it didn't happen this ,wasn't a big deal though I just used the oven and stove to heat things.
The first night at the casita we did not have hot water either just barley warm water,we let ,Burt the property manager know the next morning and he came over promptly and fixed it.The hot water heater was just turned down that's all,.after he turned it up we seemed to have unlimited hot water. :)
There is no dishwasher,so if your like me and like to cook breakfast in the morning before you go about your day, doing dishes for for nearly 45 minutes is pretty annoying,a dishwasher being installed would save so much time!
If your wondering if we would stay again, honestly I doubt it, but only because we love travelling to new places and like to try something different each time.We have never been to the same place twice.

Tips,
for those who are renting a car, drive safe get the full insurance and watch out for speed bumps! they are in unexpected places!
*Go to Balandra beach if you like the beach, it is beautiful! we liked it better then the other beaches in the area and it seemed cleaner gorgeous water too and very warm.
*Tail hunter restaurant in La Paz on the malecon was great! highly recommend .
*Lots of grocery stores to choose from in La Paz if you like cooking at home or need something specific.
*Sunsets at the Casita are amazing make sure your home some evenings to enjoy them!
*Because the casita is outside the city the sky is dark enough too see all the stars its so beautiful out there at night.
*There is a restaurant right next store, you can walk to it from the casita, its an okay restaurant they have live music, layed back atmosphere, but they only accept cash,no credit cards! to make a long story short we had to drive into La Paz to get cash out of the bank machine since the bank machines at the OXXO was out of order that day.

If you choose to stay at this casita you will not be disappointing its a very nice place and is a great value. You get alot for your money, your own private pool and hot tub really is a nice feature. We wrote this review together and just wanted to share every detail of our stay, with future travelers so you know what to expect.

Thanks for reading and have a great trip to La Paz!

I'm glad your family had a great time at the Casita and enjoyed the La Paz, Baja experience. Your review listed the same reasons I myself keep going to Southern Baja and enjoying the peacefulness of the Casita. I'm ready to jump on a plane now! I hope your family continues to stay at the private Casita while exploring the La Paz, BCS area.

I'm glad your family enjoyed staying at the Casita. The La Paz area is very special and still relatively undiscovered compared to Cabo. Thank you for your comments, and I hope your family will come back and enjoy the peace and tranquility the casita offers.
