Called today for Sunday Lunch , I did a bit of TripAdvisor research last night and booked a table online. Nice little hours drive up , called at Blagdon farm shop on the way , an hour round the market at Amble Harbour then off to the Wellwood for lunch .
I really like making my own choices at a carvery and this was the main reason I chose this pub . I wasn't disappointed either , quality of the beef and gammon was excellent, veg was cooked to perfection and the sticky toffee pud was fantastic.
Very highly recommended, staff were all lovely as well !

5 day break over New Year with friends didn't stay at the Wellwood but did frequent for drinks and food on several days and enjoyed every drink and meal. Great selection of drinks a very reasonable price and a we'll designed menu including carvery. The pub is quant, warm, dog friendly and clean. Staff are very friendly and helpful. I would like to thank all the staff and recommend that any one visiting the area drop in for a drink and or a meal.
Regards Mr PC.

We stayed here on a bed and breakfast basis, the location is great as you are in the town of Amble which is lovely and you are in a good position to explore up and down the coast, we had a pleasant stay.
The breakfast was great and the service was well organised.

We stayed here 2 nights over the Bank Holiday weekend. Its in a great location. Close to the marina and the main town and beach area. There ar only 4 rooms, our room was compact but it was a base to sleep, we did report the toilet seat very loose on arrival but it was not repaired by the time we left. But apart from that we had a great time. There is a great bar area that allows dogsand plenty of outside spae to sit. It has a great selection of beers and gins. We ate the first night and Katie recommended the Pepper Chicken, which was lovely but too much veg, my partner had the Cambodian Street Food Curry with prawns which he said was amazing. They have music most Fri and Sat nights and Fri was great as it was by birthday and I had a great time. The breakfast was great too they have a menu but you can make up your own if you prefer. Bear this in mind if you want an early night but usually it is over by 11pm. We would have no hesitation to stay again

Good choice of beer and gin but as for the food, worst, I repeat worst we have experienced!

The fact we could buy the big al’s microwave pizza on amazon prime, flatbread which was inedible, chicken in a curry which tasted like it had come straight from a microwave, as for the pie simply the worst pie ever, microwaved and tasteless... extremely disappointing and could not wait to leave!

Avoid, unless you want a drink and can grab a similar quality microwave meal from the co-op 50 yards away!

Shame as the pub has so much potential!

Left feeling disappointed, will never return
