We rented this town-home for 9 evenings. I always appreciate others input on this so I will try to do my part.....90% of the country does NOT take Amex. I found this out the hard way.
Upon arrival everything was as described. Received instructions on how to get in the gated community, the key to the door, etc. No problems with customs - i paid $5 for a porter to take a cart full of bags to the taxi. The airport is close to Delpaorte Point maybe 10 minutes- however the fairs are fixed(ish). I paid $40 coming and $35 going for 4 people and 5 medium bags. We got there 2.5 hours early for our departure when leaving, and needed every minute. Long security lines and the conveyor belt systems was broken. I found it humorous knowing our TSA's paranoia with leaving "bags unattended" however there were about 500 bags "attended" by 1 gate agent in a large vacant area of the airport; similar to staging for departures since the belt systems was down. Gate agent said this happens frequently. Subsequently, the lines throughout the process were long (customs, grabbing a sandwich, etc.) Use the old 3 hours-international-rule regardless of what you read.
The front door opens to a large family area with the kitchen table. You can tell the appliances in, and the kitchen area itself, are new - has everything you need. Looked like a new washer and dryer, however we never used it. The best part of downstairs is out the sliding glass door out to the 10-12 foot deck. You can sink in some amazing views of the water while utilizing the small charcoal grill while sipping a cold beverage. We visited during the Rio Olympics and there is nice large HD TV inside and stereo system, so this was a great addition. The reef in front is a chore to get down to the water - sharp, rocky coral but 2 of us managed to get down there for one morning. I didn't use the 2 pools on the property - why would you come to the Bahamas to swim in the pool?
The beach area is a 2 minute walk back out the front door and towards the 10 o'clock position. You walk through the grass and essentially, once in the water, perpendicular to the Poop Deck restaurant. It was all very nice; the 4 of us would just sit in the waves, perfect temperature water, and talk for hours. You can see Hotel Atlantis and the coming and going of cruise ships in this area so it was enjoyable.
The home has 3 levels. The only grip I have is that the 2 bathrooms within the home are on the second floor. I got over it, but it does change your routine. The beds were pleasant, the furniture is aged, but we didn't come here to sit inside. We used the grill almost every evening out on the deck while enjoying the sites and visited a different place every day.
We used the jitneys everywhere we went as we didn't rent a car; and this was daily. Grocery store ( 5 min jitney ride and be prepared to spend 2X what you pay in the states for everything), into town, scuba diving, etc. It does mean you can only buy what you can carry, but this was no issue for the 4 of us with backpacks. The location of Delaporte is about 20 minutes West of Nassau. Quiet, removed from the bustle yet protected and 2 nice restaurants within walking distance. I preferred the Blue Sail over the Poop Deck, but both are good.
Overall, I was pleased with our choice. The location is good, the place has all that you need, and its the Bahamas.
The villa is perfectly situated for snorkeling on one side and sandy beach leisure on the other side. The best part of the villa truly is the location. We were in a gated community and away from all of the tourist congestion. We enjoyed the patio every morning and evening. You can get anywhere on the shuttle buses and it's much cheaper than taking a cab or renting a car. Please note that a lot of food is imported so it's a bit more costly than we were accustomed to - I recommend cooking as eating out can start to add up. There are several nice restaurants within walking distance. We enjoyed taking a tour of the island using the shuttle buses. The locals were extremely friendly and more than happy to share information about their island. We were also able to rent jet skis via phone and have them delivered to us on the beach right by our villa! The only downside to our trip was an incident with housekeeping toward the end of our stay which we addressed with Jefferson and he handled without incident. The inside of the villa was quaint and comfortable. We would have preferred newer, clean linen and an iron (the iron was rusted and not working) - we brought this to Jefferson's attention and he indicated he'd have this replaced. The villa pics are as advertised, however, the views in the pictures don't do them justice - definitely breathtaking. We plan on renting this unit again when we return.
We stayed with family and friends for one week. The setting is beautiful with access to 2 pools and sandy beaches. The town-house has an outstanding view and ocean-side private patio.
The kitchen is well equipped with dishes and high- end cookware. There is no dishwasher
( as shown in some pictures) but there is a washing machine and dryer.
The overall appearance of the house is tired, especially the main living area. Some of the cabinets are broken, as was the latch on the patio door.
Although we were charged for extra people, one of the beds was un-sleepable and another suitable only for children. Most of the bedding was thin and worn and the pillows were flat as pancakes.
The unit was booked by a friend and she was happy with the owners prompt responses to questions. He was approachable, and available by phone during our stay.
