If you are looking for the kind of old-world charm and decor that was luxurious enough for the Windsors and Winston Churchill, Graycliff is your hotel. Mind you, this is no convention hotel with 21st century amenities, but if you are up for immersion in a history that dates back to pirates and Prohibition, knock yourself out. My room was at the top of the main staircase -- comfortable, quiet, with an updated bathroom, walk-in closet, antique furniture, and a bed fit for a king. I visited the pool area but, unfortunately, did not have time to lounge in this gracious, tree-lined oasis since I was on a solemn two-day visit for a State Funeral. At least, I could take advantage of another plus for this hotel -- it is situated in downtown Nassau, within walking distance of all the historic landmarks and other tourist attractions, including Christ Church Cathedral, the main site for the occasion and purpose of my visit.

Brenda was most kind and courteous at check-in and check-out, and this is by no means an afterthought. Given the circumstances of my visit, it was a great source of comfort to be greeted and cared for by someone who is a perfect example of typical Bahamian hospitality.

Visited Graycliff while stopped in Nassau on a cruise and experienced a wonderful, old world destination. Although "officially" closed due to Labour Day celebrations, we toured the hotel and grounds, visited the cigar works, the chocolate shop, the associated winery (Bahama Barrels), and had a memorable meal in the restaurant. Afterwards we toured the amazing wine cellar. All by being inquisitive and courteous and asking nicely to look around and explore. We came away with tremendous memories, a great meal (the Conch Chowder with Pepper Sauce is it was amazing), and a desire to return. I give it the best possible rating.

We got to the hotel for our dinner reservations, and it was like walking into time. It was elegant and charming, we got seated in the lounge before the table and served a beautiful cocktail, while listening to the pianist. Then when our table was ready we got seated and got told some very cool stories about the history of the hotel. We choose a tasty bottle of 1984 Bordeaux to accompany our amazing dinner. After dinner we had the honour of going to see a beautiful historic the worlds 3 best wine cellar. All round a amazing evening. I would highly recommend it.
