This is our first visit to St. John after Hurricane Irma, fourth visit to St. John and most importantly second stay at Garden by the Sea (new ownership). Both the island and GBTS have retained their loveliness while moving on and rebuilding in a good way. Ask about the titanium light poles that are being placed all around the island. Oh and the sea grass turtles were in abundance.
We stayed at the Terrace room and couldn't be more happier. Our days started with a delicious and hearty breakfast that can carry you through lunch. Eileen and John are the nicest and hospitable hosts who are flexible. Case in point, our coffee was ready on the by 7am and breakfast at 8:30. Their enthusiasm for the island is contagious and you just might run into them in town at happy hour.
The location for GBTS can't be beat. Don't rent a jeep on your first day at St. John. Instead, you can either walk (10 minutes) or take a taxi. The next day go ahead and rent a Jeep for your trip. In fact, if one location do not have a Jeep available, it is a leisure walk to the next. Don't have to worry about paying for parking since GBTS is a nice stroll to Cruz Bay.
The only downside to GBTS is that you might not want to go back home. :-)
