I can't say enough good things about the breathtaking Bananaquit House I stayed at in St. Lucia! From the moment I arrived, I was blown away by the luxurious yet laid-back vibe. The home sits atop a lush green hillside overlooking the iconic Pitons - that view is just indescribably stunning. I spent each morning out on the balcony enraptured by the landscape while sipping coffee. The house itself is an oasis of comfort and relaxation. I loved unwinding on the plush couches or enjoying a nap on the sunbeds, with the sounds of nature streaming in through the open windows. Falling asleep and waking up to the chorus of tree frogs and chirping birds was divine. Don't even get me started on the Pool - floating around on the infinity edge, fringed by beautiful trees and overlooking the sea was pure bliss. I also adored watching the colourful hummingbirds flit around the flowers on the property. The lush gardens are a haven for these magical creatures. After just a week at this magnificent home, I have already planned my return trip. The combination of sheer natural beauty, total comfort, and an air of luxury is completely intoxicating. Staff were friendly and accommodating. I simply cannot wait to be back overlooking those famous Pitons and soaking up the magic of St. Lucia once more. This is a beyond five-star experience in my book!

Best view in the world!
Amazing group experience with a beautiful view. The staff are all lovely and the pool area is great for chilling during the day. The open plan living room area is amazing and great for viewing the sunset each evening!

Not A Luxury House
Bananaquit House is a spacious home with lovely views that can accommodate a crowd, but it is not a luxury property by any stretch of the imagination, despite what one would think when paying nearly $6,000/night, as we were during Christmas week. While the views are great and the infinity pool is lovely, the pool area offers little shade. Overall the house is extremely run down and in need of major upgrading, although the staff did a nice job of daily cleaning the place and making the beds. We experienced at least three episodes when there was no running water due to a pump problem but hopefully it has been replaced by the time you read this. A/C units in two of the bedrooms were not working and the fan in the principal bedroom was also not working (both issues were eventually resolved). Six of the seven bedrooms do not have windows that can be closed. No screens, no glass… just mosquito nets. This would not be a huge deal except that it’s so humid that it doesn’t really cool down at night. You can imagine how effective AC units are at cooling rooms with open windows… One of the lower floor suites smelled intensely of chlorine and was unusable (it could also best be described as “dungeon-like”. There were bathrooms without working towel racks or toilet paper holders. If you read the house description, it states that the rental includes a cooked Breakfast. The problem was the staff arrived at 9:00am and breakfast was supposed to be served at 10:00am; way too late for families with children. The chef prepares delicious meals but since the staff leaves by 3:00 pm, it is left on the stove for you to reheat and serve. The dishwasher was not working so every evening without a dishwasher (and perhaps without water) we had to leave the dishes, pots & pans in the kitchen for the staff to do the washing up in the morning. The water problem was intermittent but occurred three of our six nights there. The most upsetting thing was the fruit bats flying through the house in the early evening. The bats actually nest in the living room rafters and have direct access to the twin bedroom on the upper level, where the kids were sleeping. We captured and released one bat but once we found more flying about, we had to move the children to another bedroom a floor below. Despite what we were told, bat bites are serious and can be fatal. Rum punch and a snack was only served the night we arrived. After that we were on our own. Not the idyllic meal situation we imagined but that said, Margaret was a good cook and the meals were tasty. She did make salads when we asked and chicken fingers for the kids one night. Before we rented the house I emailed quite a bit with Sam, the owner. He wrote that the beach was a 5-10 minute walk or a 1 minute away by car. Very misleading! If you dared to walk to the beach it would be 30-40 minutes on a completely unpaved VERY steep, rocky winding road and an 8 minute car ride (we timed it). In conclusion, this house was unsuitable for a family with children and would be best suited for a bachelor party. If you are visiting during the off season and renting really cheaply, like $2,000 per week, you might tolerate a house in such poor condition. Jason, the house manager, was very responsive whenever we contacted him with one problem or another but be forewarned, when you finalize your grocery bill with Jason he will ask for 4.5 % extra if you use a credit card. Better to bring cash.

Hi Stephanie, I am sorry that you didn't enjoy the villa at all, and apologise for the maintenance issues that were present. Since they have been brought to my attention they have been fixed. The staff are flexible to the guests wants, if you wanted an earlier breakfast time you need only ask. The pictures do show that the property is open air on the main floor. The house manager and I did communicate with you that the guests is responsible for food - and offered to pre stock the house as a service for you. Again - if you wanted a more substantial meal you can just ask. The credit card fee is merely passing on the cost of the machine facility at the house - that is what we get charged. you initially indicated you would pay cash which doesn't carry the levy. Finally the walk to the beach is documented on google maps as 12 minutes. I can only assume you took a wrong turn, and apologise that you didn't get the right directions. We are sorry that you didn't have a positive experience and are glad we had a chance to talk through it.

Bananaquit House
We absolutely loved this house, perfect for our 2 families total of 10 people and room to spare. The house itself is amazingly beautiful, plenty of indoor/outdoor spaces to enjoy and an awesome infinity pool. The wide open floor plan of the main living area presents a spectacular unobstructed view of the Caribbean ocean and pitons. This is the place you want to stay. No need to research any further. The topper is the personal attention of the owner Sam, house manager Jason, and the house staff Margret, Asha, Conchellia (sp?)and Franklin. Why was I so impressed? There was a booking overlap on our day of arrival that Sam realized about 2 months prior to our trip. Changing the flight schedule was not a great option due to excessive cost. Sam offered to set us up at one of several nearby resorts for that night. He suggested Fon Deux, an eco resort with multiple private cottages which turned out to be a great experience vacation within a vacation. Sam said he also wanted to set us up with a private charter catamaran for a day. What?! It was quite possibly the highlight of our trip and not something we would have done if not for Sam’s generous consideration. Lastly we loved the island so much and since we lost some time to due tropical storm Bret we inquired about staying an extra day if the house was available which it was. Sam offered it up at a great price and we added a bonus day. THANK YOU Sam!! Jason handled purchasing of all our food and beverage supplies, even going to the dock to get us fresh caught fish. We underestimated drinking water, beer and other items and Jason just handled it, no hassle no problem done. On our last day as we were again running low on Piton beer Jason showed up unexpectedly with a case as a gift, very thoughtful and appreciated! The house was kept clean everyday, beds made, fresh supply of beach and bath towels, we always had what we needed for the days adventures. The grounds were tidied up every morning. The pool was always crystal clear vacuumed and well maintained. We all thought of Margret as the house Mom, overseeing the day to day operation. Margret prepared most of our meals during our stay. She is an amazing chef! We would let her know our plans each day and she was happy to prepare whatever we asked of her, BIG breakfast, lunch to go, dinner etc. real home cooking better than the finest restaurant. No need to eat out you are just wasting your money. She even made a wonderful decorated cake from scratch including fresh cut fruit on top for my daughter’s birthday, it was delicious! So to sum it up if you are planing a trip to Saint Lucia and considering a villa for a large group this is the house you want to book. You will not regret it trust me.

Absolutely fabulous!
The house was spotless. The most friendly, kindest staff to help with everything. From cleaning, to laundry, and cooking. The food was fabulous, a beautiful table set for every meal. There was 11 of us. 4 couples and 3 singles. Each one of us had an incredible week. Breathtaking views from the living area and pool. We hired a catamaran for an afternoon which was incredible, Snorkling was breathtaking. Enjoyed the sulphur springs and botanical gardens too. Well with a visit.

Beautiful House and Staff
We stayed at Bananaquit House for 5 days with five couples and had a wonderful time. The staff was attentive, helpful and did a great job. We ate wonderful local food and the house was spotless every time we returned. The pictures do not do the house justice, the views and the pool are wonderful. If you are familiar with the road to Anse Chastenet you will know it is not easy to get to the house, but the trip is well worth it.

Beautiful Bananaquit Villa in Soufriere, St. Lucia for a weeklong extended family stay
Our extended family of 11 (including 5 teenagers aged 13-18) spend one wonderful week in the Bananaquit Villa. The fee for the week excluded a cook, two housekeepers, a pool man, and a gardener. The view from the open air living/dining room was of the Pitons and the ocean. When we first saw the view we couldn't take our eyes off it. There are 7 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. All have mosquito nets over the beds. Be sure and bring lots of bug spray with Deet! The house is exceptionally clean and well kept. The large pool kept our teens busy for hours as well as did the ping pong table. The location of the house is just down right beautiful! We did not rent a car while in St. Lucia as the roads are difficult to navigate in places but we did use the services of Bob's Taxi which is associated with the villa. Bob took us to the grocery, snorkeling, souvenir shopping, to the drive in volcanos, to Sugar Beach, to a zip line, and to and from the airport. Bob also lined us up with Mario for a chartered boat to the north of the island for shopping and sightseeing. This was one of our best vacation locations ever!!!

missing you now
What a wonderful week! Our three families had a relaxing family vacation... The staff was the best, and our driver, Bob, was all we could ask for! Here we are home in the Hamptons and all we talk about is the friendly, beautiful island of St. Lucia and the Bananaquit House. The views, the food, the sounds.... We hope to return. Thank you all so much. It was a perfect week!
