Apartment was located in Soufriere seated up the mountain/hill with a perfect view of the pitons, ocean and the town. Pictures are exactly what you see. We brought our camel baks since we walked everywhere which came in great use. When the driver stops at the grocery store for you, get as much as you can for your stay because the local grocery stores don't have near what that first grocery store did. Mattress could use a memory foam 2 in topper as it's a bit hard. All in all, great trip! Janus is great and people are friendly - read the books/reviews from each room which are on the his website. Comes in handy!
Sapphire 4 was a perfect base for our 4 nights in Soufriere. Nestled up the hill a bit, we got a beautiful view of Soufriere, the bay and the Pitons. We never tired of the view, and enjoyed starting and ending our day on the balcony. We were serenaded by roosters and a few dogs in the morning, and it was nice to watch the town 'wake up' each morning.
It was a quick drive to all of our attractions, and we loved walking 'into town' a few times. We felt very safe walking to/from the apartment.
Sapphire 4 was clean and we immediately settled in. Janus has picked good quality products (granite countertops) that will still be in great condition in years to come.
Janus was always a phonecall or message away, and quick to respond. It was great to come 'home' after a busy day, and find a fresh treat on our doorstep. Janus cares about his guests and he was a perfect ambassador for our first rental in St Lucia. We appreciate our experience at Sapphire all the more because our next rental in St Lucia has had many little difficulties that add up to be a big disappointment.
We would love to rent from Janus in the future!
Driving in Soufriere was a bit stressful because of the narrow roads, but everyone makes their way slowly and it all works out! I would perhaps advise people to make sure they can arrive in daylight for the first day, or get a ride from the airport and have the car delivered/rented in Soufriere. We stopped at the Massey grocery store in La Tourney and bought all of our groceries there.
We thought 3 full days and a morning would be enough time in Soufriere, but at least one more day would be a minimum to enjoy the beaches. Day 1 was Tet Paul, Diamond Botanical Gardens and diving the Pinnacles with Chester from Action Adventure Divers. Day 2 was smoothie and iced coffee at Zaka's, lunch at Jade Mountain (okay food, amazing views), and snorkeling at Anse Mamin. Day 3 was climbing Gros Piton and a beach feast at Anse L'lvrogne prearranged with Paul from Zion Lion Farm (incredible, amazing fresh meal!!). We could have spent a whole day just at Anse L'lvrogne (park by The View restaurant and walk down, water taxi would be easiest). Day 4 was a very quick visit to Jalousie Plantation Beach and then checking out and sadly leaving Soufriere for Castries.
tl;dr: Book with Janus, stay at least 5 nights.
Fantastic view and friendly people in this authentic town, Janus was very helpful and the apartment is new, clean and modern. Eat at local place Fedo's for best value.
The view is absolutely amazing! Day and Night! Most notable is the responsiveness and hospitality of Janus and his team! Not only was his apartment clean, and his drivers gracious and dependable (Kahill, Ramiah, Steven, Marshall), his assistant Elma was so friendly and responsive to requests and knowledge of the town. Walking the cobblestone hill and streets to town were also fun, getting the feel of being part of the Soufriere community. Everyone is so friendly! Also don't forget to visit Zaka's! Coffee and omelets are amazing and you will enjoy meeting Zaka and his staff!
Our suite, on two levels, is very spacious, has a kitchenette, has a washing machine for clothing, and we found it very clean. Our two night stay was very enjoyable. The owner, Janus, was there to greet us, showed up to say goodbye, and through his reasonably priced car service he took care of all our transportation needs.
Soufriere is not a major tourist destination, but has some wonderful attractions. Primary is a pair of conical mountain peeks, known as the Pitons. The balcony has an outstanding view of them. Just outside town is a pair of attractions, the volcano, which is now a steam vent with a nearby waterfall, and Diamond Gardens, which has a multi-colour waterfall with mineral-stained rocks that gives it a rainbow appearance.
