We are frequent travellers, also to the Carribean, but we have been faced with such an unpleasant situation for the first time.
We were to arrive to this property and spend two weeks there. Just four weeks before our arrival we found out that there's ZIKA virus on St Lucia, being pregnant. Therefore we had to rearrange our travel plans. For over three weeks we were calling the landlord on the phone numbers provided , mailing him and even trying to contact via HomeAway customer Care, via which we booked the property . We were aware that we were not entitled to100% rental refund, but we wanted to discuss potential options of rescheduling our stay or simply finding new guests/replacement for this period. All of these efforts remained uneffective. The Landlord was not reachable one the phone and was not responding to our messages. After a few weeks of silence, a day before our planned arrival the Landlord responded to our message stating that he is aware of ZIKA at St Lucia and he is surprised we see this as a risk(sic!) plus that our rental is during a high season and that he could have rented the place many times.
We found this response and the overall behaviour as extremely arrogant and ignorant. We wish nobody similar situations - all the payment for two weeks' stay was gone with no word from the owner. It is worth noting that all airlines and hotels we booked for that trip, except this one, have taken immediate action and offered us a full or at least partial refund or possibility to re-book.
We will be coming to St Lucia quite soon but we will definietely avoid this property
Let's start by saying, the pictures are exactly the splendor you will find here.
This was my second trip to St. Lucia and wanted the opportunity to cook-in some evenings instead of eat out. The suite was perfect for this. You are a 7-15 minute walk down to three groceries stores and other shops in Rodney Bay which are well equipped. I felt quite safe walking down and back up from town. There is a bit of a steep incline close to the house, but if you take it slow, it is fine. In terms of safety, you still need to exercise caution.
Your hosts Gail and Hector are a very friendly couple and will give you good tips about everything. This is their home so they live in the levels above. You do not get that impression though as you have your own access to the 2 suites. I did not find them intrusive at all.
The only time you do notice is when they are entertaining on their patio. The patio is right above the suite. So people happily enjoying themselves and getting up and pushing their chairs back against the tile floor, does make some noise. However this only happened once while I was there and the guests left at a reasonable hour, thus was very acceptable.
he suites are immaculate and cleaned everyday which was nice. The outdoor area and pool area are beautiful with phenomenal views over Rodney Bay and the sea. Being able to sit outside quietly while regarding this beautiful view was great. There is a great private pool on site and if you want to go to the beach which is a beautiful stretch of sand, it is about a 20-25 minute walk through town. I found it was quite doable.
I did not have a car, and if you just plan on doing things around Rodney Bay there is no need. I did use the local buses during the day, which was an adventure but quite fun. Wouldn’t recommend this in the evening, or so the locals told me.
There was quite a bit of rain in January, so decided to watch a movie. The DVD was not in the room, however Hector had everything set up for me as soon as I requested and even brought down an array of movies for me to watch.
There is not air conditioning throughout the suite, just in the bedroom. There is a fan in the living space. For January it was fine. The bedroom would cool down in about 15 minutes, so was not an issue.
We mentioned that the ventilation hut in the kitchen was not working either. That was not fixed while we were we there. So we opened up all the windows and with the breeze it was manageable. I am sure Hector got it fixed after our departure.
Overall I would recommend this place for people that want a quiet get-a-away in a beautiful and charming area, yet want to be able to have the amenities of a “home”. Much enjoyed and would return!
