As we prepare to leave this wonderful villa and island i need to reflect on this awesome home! As everyone has stated it is a lovely three bedroom home! The veranda and pool were probably our favorite spots! It became hard to leave the property and explore the island - because the home was so inviting! We enjoyed watching the cruise ships and planes come and go in the harbor! The people/staff who surround this property make you feel relaxed and comfortable! Thanks to Alice, Pearl, Urial, Big Runner and Chef Joel! Your hospitality was very gracious! To our delight, our first evening, Big Runner (unexpectedly) dropped off a couple of live lobsters for Joel to cook for us the next day! This was fun! Everyone is extremely available if you need anything! Guests have access to the La Toc beach if you want to take a five minute walk! We were able to take day trips and tour various restaurants and island favorites and return to the elegance of this beautiful home! Hopefully we can return some day!
The view from the balcony at the Butterfly Beach House is breathtaking. One could almost be content sitting out there for an entire vacation. However, retiring at night to the crisp, white linens in the air-conditioned bedrooms was also heavenly. Pearl, the housekeeper, truly makes a beautiful bed. She also takes great pride in keeping the rest of the house spotless. Her sweet personality is a bonus. If you desire a luxury resort with full-service amenities, this house is not a good choice. But if you are independent travelers who appreciate a well-maintained family home with a central location ideal for exploring the entire island, look no further. Uriel, the house manager, met us upon arrival and explained everything we needed to know in great detail. He also came by daily to check on us, which offered peace of mind. LaToc Beach, adjacent to a Sandals resort, is a short walk down a staircase from the house's patio. It's a pretty beach and large enough that we didn't feel crowded among the Sandals guests. And Sandals doesn't seem to mind if you borrow one of their beach loungers. As the sun rises early and sets early in St. Lucia, we got into the habit of morning activities - zip lining, hiking Pigeon Island, whale watching, climbing Gros Piton, touring the Botanical Gardens and more. Then we came back to the house in the afternoon to enjoy the pool well into the evening. While the kitchen is not large or exceedingly modern, it's certainly adequate to prepare simple meals. For example, we got fresh Mahi from a local fisherman and cooked it for dinner twice. One word of caution: the driving in St. Lucia is very treacherous. We are adventurous travelers who have driven in many locales, but St. Lucia's winding, narrow roads with no shoulders, heavy traffic in some areas, and many pedestrians, should not be taken lightly. We originally planned to get a rental car. However, after the ride in from the airport, we changed our minds. The best decision we made was to hire a driver named David, aka, "Big Runner." He drives many of the guests at Butterfly Beach House and a few other neighboring villas. He was incredible. He showed us many local things we would not otherwise have seen and essentially served as our private tour guide all week. His rates are very fair. We HIGHLY recommend him. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to St. Lucia, and we would definitely stay at the Butterfly Beach House again.
Celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary at this beautiful, romantic, secluded well kept home. Waking up to the view was mind boggling!! We absolutely loved the pool! Close to the beach at Sandals. Experienced true St. Lucia culture which is something you mid at a resort. Our taxi/tour guide, "Big Runner"was always there to take us wherever we needed, for a fee of course. Alice, owner, was so helpful. She took me to the local hospital and stayed with me and checked in on my progress. I can't say enough about the hospitality bestowed upon us. Everything we needed was there for us. Can't wait to stay longer and bring the kids, if we can drag them away from the pool. Definitely a great place for couples. After my experience at the Butterfly House, my resort staying days are over!!
This is a fab house if you don't necessarily want to do much for yourself during your stay. The house comes with the option of a hard working cleaner Pearl, a driver, gardener, pool man, a chef and general 'looker-afterer'. Most of these we didn't use so I can't really comment upon. However, the cleaner Pearl is a chatty woman with a good sense of humour that whizzes through the cleaning very quickly (we're a family of four so we don't make much mess) and the owner Alice, a friendly American is very keen for you to enjoy your stay.
With this mind you won't be short of company, which being a bunch of grumpy Brits we personally found a little intrusive at times. However, I do accept this is a cultural thing and as the majority of users are American I am sure many people would really like how convenient everything is made for you during your stay.
The house its self is great and very jolly in decor. The best part of which is lounging around in the pool/on the veranda enjoying the view over the Caribbean Sea and laughing at the poor sods staying in the very poorly reviewed Sandals ('Scandals') Resort on La Toc beach.
We booked through an agency called Oasis Marigot who were excellent. They got back to us really quickly with a selection of dates and options of hire cars, the best of all is that they come with a 'provisioning option' which although not cheap does mean when you arrive you're all stocked up and ready to go with rum cocktails by the pool! :D
I recommend this house it is everything we expected, the views are fantastic and being be able to walk to the beach is also great - its a short drive to Marigot Bay to a dive schools which is another plus.
A really good villa to stay in near Castries. Yes there are mosquitos but there are nets over the four poster beds and spray is provided. Uriel and Pearl are really helpful and the house is well equipped (better wifi than at home in UK!). La Toc beach is great for snorkelling and swimming and I can recommend the boat tour to Soufriere from here as well. Further north the beach at Reduit is good but avoid the East coast beaches as they are full of seaweed after the visit of Tropical Storm Bertha. I would also recommend Anse Cochon for safe swimming. We hired a 4x4 through Hertz at Hewanorra airport but they couldn't supply one (!) so we had one from Cool Breeze rental which was only satisfactory - the car was a bit tired to say the least. A great family holiday.
