“A Perfect Spot Groups or Families”

Casa Ladera is a perfect spot to come home to after enjoying the very chill, low key island of Vieques. The manager, Renée, picked us up from the airport, got us settled in, then took us to get our rental car. She spent a good 20-30 minutes going over everything to do on the island, and even marked up a map with notes and tid-bits of info. That map was our bible for the entire week.

We stayed in the downstairs unit. Seriously, this place is stocked. They provide towels, a fully equipped kitchen, even laundry detergent. We packed WAY too much stuff. Now we know better!

Casa Ladera was great to share with others, and would be an EXCELLENT choice for groups to rent out the entire place.

“We had the best experience. Will def return!”

Casa Ladera is already on our next trip plan. We were traveling with our toddler, and this place was the best!
Booking, and reservations were a breeze, and everyone was very responsive to emails.
The pics provided on FlipKey and H**eA***y are honest. The property was exactly as described. Location is on the Esperanza side [in the street next to Avis]. The gentlest beaches are in the Isabella side, but everything is a 10-15 min drive. It felt very safe on the property. No horses or stray dogs wandered in because of the gate that we made sure was kept closed all the time. The beach down the street [it's literally 2 properties away] was wonderful for walks, and sunsets.

The downstairs property was super-clean and very spacious. It felt like coming home :)
[if home has iguanas, partial beach views, wandering horses in the lane, and bountiful mango trees in the yard]
The Master bedroom was HUGE, and the 2nd bedroom was a good size as well. Tons of storage. Air conditioners in each bedroom and a powerful one in the living room were a blessing [our friends at another property found out the hard way and consequently spent a lot of time with us]. Kitchen and living room had all the amenities, as does the large bathroom. The patio was sunny and inviting, the pool very clean, and refreshing. Grocery store is walking distance and we found everything we needed there [take the guava jelly home!]. We even picked mangoes every morning, and had them for breakfast [cut or in pancakes]. You just have to beat the iguanas and Mama Rooster to them.

WiFi and cable TV [Dish Network] are strong signals, but we didn't use them much.
Checking emails and watching Daniel Tiger in the am. ;)

Everything on the island is less than 15 min drive. You definitely need a Jeep to get around. We used Maritsa's upon recommendation of the prop. mgr. Great recommendation. Couldn't get my kids out of Chiva beach, even with hungry stomachs [take a picnic with you to keep the peace]. We never did find Playa Negra, but not for lack of trying! Sea Glass beach was a bit of misnomer [not much to be found, but then, we were there at sunset.]

A lot of restaurants/stores keep island time, so if heading out, it's a good idea to call ahed to make sure they're open. And watch your speed. The horses wander onto the roads all the time. Beautiful :)

The most wonderful thing that happened: My kiddo got a bad reaction to the heat/sun. We couldn't find aloe anywhere [they should grow some on each property]. We saw some in a neighbor's yard; I don't speak a lick of Spanish, they didn't habla Engles. Sign language and a photo in my phone, and this sweetheart of a stranger cut some aloe leaves from her yard and gave them to me for la bebe. Saved my vacation! Don't think I'll ever forget her kind face and Vieques hospitality in general, esp at Casa Ladera.

“Wonderful place for a large group”

We were a group of 21 extended family members and good friends who rented the whole place for 5 days. The compound is well secluded and gated for security, and the pool area great for both chilling in and around the pool as well as having a BBQ dinner together. The Cabana by the pool has a fridge and two gas grills. Beach below villa not that great, but rent jeeps and drive to the other beautiful beaches that Vieques is known for (Red beach a favorite, heard good things about Playa Navio as well as Blue beach - the latter was closed when we were there). The house also comes with some "pet" iguanas - some over 6 feet long, and wild horses walk around just outside the fence.

“This is the perfect island retreat: steps away from the beach and a huge pool on-property.”

My husband and I stayed in the Casita the second week of August. It was exactly as pictured on their website and we had the most relaxing vacation! The outdoor kitchen and pool area was great, and we grilled out almost every night. It is a convenient location to drive to the beaches, or visit the restaurants in Esperanza and Isabella. If you don't have a car, you can walk to the beach just down the street and a grocery store less than a 10 minute walk away. I really recommend you get a car though because the beaches are amazing. Renee (property manager) recommended Maritza's car rental and we used them for part of our stay. If I had to say one minor downside is that we only got wi-fi in the pool area, not in the casita. That said, it probably helped me to relax more by not being "plugged in" every second! I highly recommend you visit Vieques and stay at Casa Ladera!

“Exceeded our highest expectations in EVERY way!!"”
Reviewed 16 July 2014 for a stay in July 2014

My wife, two teenage daughters, and I recently spent 5 nights at Casa Ladera (downstairs unit) following a cruise that ended in San Juan. We have traveled through much of the Caribbean, but this was our first trip to Vieques. Everything about our experience with Casa Ladera exceeded expectations. Renee, the property manager, was incredibly responsive and helpful at every step: initial online inquiry, questions, booking, financial transactions, airport pickup, local geography lesson, eating recommendations, and final checkout. The house itself was perfect: great A/C, comfortable beds, good linens and towels, etc. There is only one bathroom, but it was large and comfortable, and the tile shower is big, comfortable, and has great water pressure. Although the house itself is great, as suggested by the photos the real stars of the show were the pool and pool deck. We have rented lots of vacation houses with pools, and this pool and deck are the best we've ever seen. Perfect water temp, great lounge chairs for laying out by day, good lighting for night swims, nice covered area with a dining table, and a full size refrigerator and two gas grills. The upstairs unit was occupied by a very nice family from Boston (we are from Oregon), and it was an extra bit of fun to have such nice "neighbors." We will definitely be back to Vieques, and will certainly stay at Casa Ladera again.
