We spent 2 nights in Casa Arana, very old colonial house in Old San Juan, once owned by a famous painter A.Arana. Some of his paintings are still displayed in the house. Our favorite one is hanging in the bedroom. The apartment is great, roomy, clean and quiet, you can hear people talking on the street or dogs barking, but this gives you the feeling that you are a part of community. The kitchen is well equipped. The living area has several doors that open to a patio full of tropical plants, like in old Spanish houses. This was our favorite place for breakfast, checking e-mails (well functioning wireless internet access) and for a drink after dinner. We slept in a queen bed with a mosquito net. There was no AC,but we did not feel that was needed, since the tick walls provided enough insulation from the sun,and the temperature at night was comfortable.
Everything we wanted to see in Old San Juan was in a walking distance!
The owners Olivia and Luis were very helpful, gracious hosts. Thank you to both for a wonderful time.

“Such a romantic place”

This place was beautiful and EXACTLY what we were looking for. Luis was a wonderful host and his house is one of the most beautiful homes I have ever visited. He lives upstairs and is always available to help if you need something, but otherwise you would not know he is there. The rental (ground floor) has its own entrance and the patio is just for the enjoyment of those who are staying there. There is no air conditioning, or TV which could be discouraging for some people, but for us it was perfect, as there was no "electrical noise" literally and metaphorically. By the way, the house has plenty of fans and the walls are very thick, so we were never hot. The supermarket is a couple of blocks away, so we got groceries and cooked breakfast every day and ate out on the patio. The only bad thing was the mosquitoes, but this is a problem everywhere in San Juan. The home is close to EVERYTHING, which makes it fun to walk and explore the city, knowing you can return to the house and rest any time you want. Staying in this house we felt like we were living in San Juan. Old San Juan is one of the safest neighborhoods in Puerto Rico. If you are craving some alone time with yourself or looking for a romantic getaway this is the perfect place. It is also a great place for those who want to know the country’s history, culture, and people. We had a blast.
