“If you want something interesting and out of the ordinary stay here.”

Our stay with Richard was great. If you are in Puerto Rico for any reason and want a real not hotel experience this is the place to stay. Public transportation takes you anywhere cheaply, experiences, museums, and local cultural fare were right outside the door. We stayed in the middle apartment of the complex; the kitchen was as complete as anything you would ever want whatever cuisine you cooked. As we were there over the Xmas holiday many restaurants were closed but the very modern grocery/wine store was open 24/7 and just two blocks away. Old San Juan was a 20 min bus ride. The beaches were within walking distance. And Richard knows the area very well from many aspects and made our stay delightful. You will not be disappointed period.

“Home away from home in Santurce”
Reviewed 28 December 2014 for a stay in December 2014

Situated in Santurce this old Caribbean house has been transformed by Richard into a little jewel with three apartments. This house was build one hundred years ago and had only three owners during this time. A lot of the charming details have been preserved, like the wonderful tiles on the floor, the wooden doors, the porch with rocking chairs. But Richard also has added everything you would expect from the perfect apartment like modern bathrooms, Wi-Fi throughout, flat TVs, aircondition and ceiling fans. Every apartment is different – the charming ground floor Casita Suite has a partially open kitchen in the patio. The second floor apartment has a little more space, two wonderful private porches, an ample kitchen, cozy livingroom and a bedroom. The nice bathrooms in all apartments offer shower only. The Penthouse was the former residence of the owner with an open layout, full of creative details, cathedral ceilings, full of light, the stunning terrace has a charming fountain, plants and flowers everywhere. Doors and windows are screened, so there is fresh air at every time and no moscitos. In the apartments you will find everything what you probably will need – hairdryer, beach towels, umbrellas, coffee and tea. Richard knows how to make his guests happy and tries to give them a feeling about the house and the Santurce neighborhood. The day after my arrival he invited me for a walk through Santurce, he showed me different very good restaurants, the Plaza del Mercado, bars and clubs, galleries, museums, the huge Pueblo supermarket. He knows a lot about the area, cultural events and he loves to share his knowledge. Old San Juan is a short bus ride away. To Ocean Park beach, the best beach in San Juan, you will walk ten minutes. So, if you don´t like to spend your vacation as the “normal tourist”, if you like to explore an interesting neighborhood with a wonderful variety of restaurants and interesting people and if you want to live in a wonderful old Caribbean house, you should look no further – this will be the right place for a wonderful vacation. I will return for sure!

I felt so relaxed and comfortable during our visit. The whole house is kept neat and tidy. From the first night walking tour to the printed site seeing directions, Richard will help in any way to make your PR visit safe and memorable. The penthouse with its beautiful patio is grand. Plan time to hear about this historic house, the special dinning room table and the entry chandelier, each have a wonderful story. Book It, you will be pleased.

“Wonderful accommodations and hospitality”
Reviewed 29 August 2014 for a stay in May 2014

This place is amazing. We stayed in the penthouse apartment for a full week and absolutely loved every minute of it. As a travel agent, I have stayed in hundreds of Hiltons, Marriotts, etc. I can't remember one from the next. This place, however, is unforgettable. Here's why:

Location: The location is about a 10 minute walk from the Condado beach area in one direction, and about 10 minutes the other direction from the Santurce town square, with plenty of local restaurants, bars, dollar Medalla beers, and really friendly people. We even saw a live boxing match in the street on a friday night. This is great because if you want to do the beach touristy thing, you're right there, and if you want to chill like a local that's a walk in a different direction. The streets look "gritty" in the neighborhood with some grafitti and shut down stores but we never felt unsafe at all. Next door was a band that practiced a few nights until around 10, we never got over there to check them out but they sounded pretty decent and definitely added to the authentic vibe of the accommodation.

The apartment itself: We stayed in the penthouse on the third floor. It's a nice open layout, with a huge bathroom, closet, living room and bedroom, and a small kitchenette. Plenty of room for me and my wife. The living room has a big screen tv and really nice leather chairs, and the bedroom has a mini-split AC unit that cranks out cold air(the rest of the apartment is not air conditioned). There are sliding doors from the living room and bedroom that lead out to a really nice balcony with a waterfall and chairs which we spent a whole lot of time on hanging out and enjoying the trip. If you are mobility impaired this apartment is not for you, as there are two flights of stairs you need to traverse. As this is an old property the stairway is narrow and circular, really nice but not for the elderly or infirm. The building is well secured by two doors and gates that you have to lock coming in and out. The pricing was great compared to a hotel in Condado or other rental apartments.

Other apartments: We got a chance to check out the second floor and first floor apartments in the building while we were there as well. Really nice accommodations just like the penthouse, and the first floor had a kitchen that was open air. Would definitely consider staying there if the penthouse wasn't available.

Richard: Richard gets his own category, as he was the definition of hospitality personified. From the minute we arrived to the minute we left, Richard was incredibly accommodating, friendly and helpful. Upon arrival he took us for a walking tour of the neighborhood and showed us all the great places to see. He even gave us the keys to his property in Luquillo to check out when we were there at the beach for the day. He's not at the property all the time, mostly during business hours where he had an office on the first floor, but was available via phone. He gave us some great suggestions of places to see during our week there and every suggestion he had was 100 percent on the money.

We will be back for sure.

“Repeat customers”
Reviewed 7 July 2014 for a stay in July 2014

We have stayed in the different room options Richard has prepared, and whenever we are in San Juan, we would stay nowhere else. Richard is a wealth of information about the latest in the island, from restaurants, the economy, cultural events and I can go on and on. He has transformed this unassuming place into a small castle, with the conveniences of modern day life.
