Just returned from a 2 week stay at this hotel and can honestly say that it was beautiful. Check in after a 3hour transfer in the golden club lounge was quick smooth and very friendly. Then onto the buggy to be taken to our junior suite which was very spacious and had a beautiful sea view. The food was excellent and all 3 restraunts were very good. The swimming pool areas were of contrasting nature (one so quiet and one noisy where pool games are played) animation team were very good especially Alex and Jimmy. Victor in the lobby bar is a good guy. All in all a very hot, sunny and very very enjoyable holiday .Well done to everyone at this hotel and thank you for your hospitality

Room tip: We had room 3128 excellent views

Absolutely Superb if:

You don't need a walking beach

You don't need white sand

You are okay with an average age of 55+

You like getting dressed up for meals, even at the buffet

You don't need American music

You don't need beach or poolside service

What you will get is:

Clear water, no seaweed, no coral. It is on the green side instead of turquoise but it is warm and the views from the beach are awesome. The sand is hard and good for walking even if walking from one end to the other takes 3 minutes. They also serve a different BBQ lunch on the beach every day.

80% of guests are over 50 but this is great if you are looking for a more refined atmosphere for relaxing-mostly couples. There was zero loud partying while we were there but such an enjoyable time.

There are 3 pool areas. The main pool has Caribbean music and activities some of the time. Then if you go down the many steps to the right of the pool, this will take you to the snack bar, deck and 3 Jacuzzi pools. Quiet with excellent landscaping. The food at the snack bar is very good. You will find hamburgers, hot dogs, pasta, chicken rice, salads, nachos and salsa and the like.

If you leave that pool area and continue to your left you will get to the smallest pool area. Once again the views and vegetation are lovely. There is a small bar that is open until 6:00. So peaceful and relaxing.

There are no foam parties-it is not that type of resort-there are bingo games at the main pool and a few entertaining games. However, the staff is awesome, full of energy and always make you smile. All pools close at 6.

Before diner, there is always a musician on the terrace outside of the the lobby bar. Such a nice place to relax and feel the ocean breeze. Liquor is mostly their own brand but the drinks are still good. The beer is Presidente. Then it is off to diner at the buffet or to 1 of their 3 a la carte restaurants (Italian, fish, gourmet). Reserve these in the Air Transat room in the lobby area. There is also 1 souvenir shop at the lobby and a few outside the reception area as well as local wares under the bridge. Very little shopping.

The buffet has a different theme every night. However, Canadian night did not feel very Canadian. Overall, the food is very good, well cooked, seasoned and kept hot. Out of all the resorts that we have done, this was one of our favorite buffets.

After diner, you slip back out to the terrace for music and dancing-salsa, cha-cha, slow dancing-(Zero techno, disco or pop music). The animators will ask you politely to dance. Guests love this. So many people get up and dance. The animators are all very nice people-you will get to know and love Jimmy, Alex and Spaghetti. It is a happy place.

At 9:30 entertainment will either continue in the disco/theater (too small by the way) or on the terrace for live music. We saw the magic show and Michael Jackson show and they were good to very good. At 11:00 the terrace area closes and the disco opens. However, it is basically empty every night. One couple told us that they were the only ones there.

The place is extremely clean, we had no issues with hot water (room 504) air conditioned areas are never too cold, service is top notch (you will not wait for anything), ocean view rooms allow you to watch the sunrise every morning. I would absolutely book this type of room again but all rooms have a great view.

The bridge to nowhere goes nowhere and we felt it was better to look at then to walk on. It was under repairs while we were there.

We went to Bacardi Island with Gregory tours (under the bridge) for 20.00 per person. You get blue water and powder white sand but I would not say that this is a must.

The glass elevators are very cool. As I said earlier, beautiful views are everywhere. Different birds can be seen-tons of swallows, woodpeckers, pelicans, etc. There are also tiny lizards here and there. I saw one mosquito the whole time I was there and no jelly fish.

This resort has 298 rooms, so you end up seeing the same people over and over again. This leads to a few head nods, then hello and a night cap. We met so many nice people on this trip-hi Lorin and Steve. There were many English, German and Canadians; Zero spring breakers, very few children and families.

If you want lovely views, Rest, Relaxation and Romance, a change, very clean, good food, a resort with a somewhat upscale feel at a good price then this is the place for you. The Cayacoa aims to please. We were at this resort from Feb. 26-march 4th, 2016. Contact me if you have any questions.

Room tip: Ocean front rooms will be quieter but all rooms offer a great view

Our goal on this vacation (Feb 3-10 2016) was to go whale watching, and also check out a new to us GBP hotel in the Samana. (Whale watching was an amazing experience and we saw a lot of whales!)

Since both GBP El Portillo and Cayacoa interested us we decided to try out the "Air Canada Samana Roulette" booking. This type of booking did save us a couple of hundred dollars.

The biggest bonus of this hotel is all the amazing views you get from the terrace, your room, the pool, and the several lookouts on the small bay side.

Another bonus for this hotel is you are able to walk into town or to the marina in 10 minutes. At all the other GBP hotels in the surrounding area you would have to pay taxi fares.

We opted for a junior suite superior and since we arrived after dark due to an issue on our plane's main engine it was only the next morning when we got to see the view from room 420. We absolutely loved our view which was overlooking the small bay at the back of the hotel. No late night noise issue at all. We showered around 6 p.m. and always had hot water.

Due to our GBP brand loyal this was our 13th vacation though we were challenged on this as guest service claimed their records showed us as staying only once at their Coba hotel in Mexico. Thankfully I was able to supply dates and hotel names which they verified. Sincere apologies were offered at not being originally received as a VIP guests, our wristbands were changed, and restitution was made.

As usual for us I had emailed both hotels ahead stating we were GBP VIP guests and requested a mattress topper, a nice view, and our preferred dinning time. We did get a mattress topper on our 3rd night though it really should have been their upon arrival.

Even with having our wristbands changed on day 2 I encountered an issue with one of the bartenders. I never reported it to guest service but the next night a manger approached my husband and I to offer an apology so clearly someone had told him of the incident. The bartender never apologized for his behaviour. I did have to ask him for water a couple of days later as he was the only bartender at that time.

Truthfully it was disappointing to have incurred so many issues at a GBP hotel though in fairness to the hotel all the issues were resolved by night #3 by Nery of the reception desk, Sabrina, Yuderka, and Albis who all work in the guest service department, Victor the wonderful bartender, Luz who helped me connect to the Internet, Abraham the safe serviceman, and the lobby bar manager.

Housekeeping, and service at all the a la carte restaurants and buffet were perfect.

We enjoyed the daily Spanish lesson and participating in the games at the pool. We did not go to any of the nightly shows in the disco because we preferred sitting with guests we became friends with and they were very entertaining!

We were very lucky with the timing of this vacation as the hotel had a nice set up for the Super Bowl party and if you stayed to the end everyone got to choose a prize of either rum, coffee, or a tee shirt. (Guests who had picked the winning team got first choice)

We would not return solely because we did what we wanted to do in the area and there are still 2 other DR GBP hotels we want to check out. I would recommend going during whale watching season to enhance your vacation with an amazing experience. Take Gravol as a precaution. We had a calm day and no one got sick on our boat but heard from our friends that a couple of people on their boat which went out at the same time as us got sick.

P.s. I did write Senor Colombo who is the general manager on February 15th to offer a few observations rather than completing the guest satisfaction email survey which would not have allowed me to give him valuable feedback based on our experience but he never even acknowledged my email. Perhaps he is not able to write English.

We have just come back from a lovely 2 week stay, the hotel is very relaxed and chilled out feel to it. The hotel was never that busy beds around pool and beach never a problem. Bar staff are great and very attentive especially jordi . Food was good we eat at all the all restaurants and food quality was good .
We had a private transfer and would recommend it as its a long drive on the coach. We also did the vip at the airport which made it total relaxed . We did whale watching with Kim which I would recommend

Great location. However, we had NO hot water the entire week. The staff told us because we were in a villa off the main hotel is why...maybe. Others in the villas had hot water. Buffet was very good!! Italian restaurant A+, the seafood restaurant was a C, went twice and was not impressed. The staff was friendly and the main pool had a lot of activities which was fun. Overall we had a great time, but thought things could have been a little nicer.
