I am aware that my negative review is in a minority but to each their own,we were aware of the construction work before we arrived and contacted our UK travel agent to request rooms away from that area we were reassured by Thomas Cook that they had been advised by Secrets that rooms overlooking construction were not being used for the duration of the work.
When we arrived we were blown away by the welcome and the view from reception which was amazing, check in went well we were shown to our rooms and guess what full on construction view we made it clear we were not happy to stay in those rooms to be fair to them my sister and brother in law were found a new room the same day my husband and I waited 3 days to be moved,we were told we would be going to the same building as our family but then that changed we were in the pool facing end of building 3 the others were in building 5 so much for being together as we were promised very disappointing.
The rooms we saw were all identical well laid out with nice bathrooms but the finish of the rooms are certainly not high end rough tile work and plaster power sockets hanging off the walls and the damp musky smell was awful fortunately we brought damp rid to hang in the wardrobe which is a must our were full after 2 weeks so it is quite humid that said the aircon worked well, the bed and bedding were very nice, house keeping were ok apart from knocking on the door before 9 o'clock despite the red light being on.We did have mosquitoes in the room but were informed that it would be fumigated which did help.
On a positive note the resort is stunning the pools are lovely we were non preferred we never had a problem getting sunbed but you need to be early if you want an umbrella they desperately need to invest in more the pool staff spent all day dragging what few there were from one area to another, absolutely ridiculous.
The beach wow what can you say the bluest sea ever unfortunately we were only able to go in the sea once because the seaweed became a real problem no one's fault just nature but it was so deep and smelly along the shoreline it was to off putting, there were plenty of available sunbeds down there but I think the seaweed put people off going.
Now for the real bugbear if you go here expecting a romantic couples vibe you will be sorely disappointed Secrets has gone down the corporate events route in a massive way couples are now in a minority 3 days into our stay a 400 person corporate event started and that was just the beginning one group after another arriving the impact was obvious straight away with restaurants closed to accommodate the group's and staff shortages in the others causing long wait times and slow service, after dinner the group's then took over the lobby area in a very loud often drunk and unpleasant way with no regard for others not a pleasant or comfortable place to be.
The night club was also a no go area we went in once and didn't even finish our drink awful atmosphere think spring break with bells on not unlike an 18 30s resort in Benidorm vile.
Same can be said of the theatre what an awful place we didn't stay 5 minutes so couldn't review the acts,if you want cosy intimate seating forget it,it's like a 1960 picture house.
The food I have no idea how this is classed 5 star out of 14 nights never once did we all 4 of us have a good dining experience the food ranged from ok to dreadful,we tried all the restaurants the best of a bad lot has to be Himitsu even they managed to get it wrong on the last night I don't think we ever had a hot meal everything is lukewarm, why. The worst one was Bordeaux very rude waiter, after a very long wait our supposed medium steaks arrived they were blue OMG there was blood all over the plate this meat had barely seen a grill made worse by the fact a couple near us had the same problem 5 minutes before they had sent theirs back and had to wait ages for another steak we didn't bother we got up and left going straight to complain at concierge they listened to our complaints and said it would be looked into and we would be contacted of course we never heard another thing. In my opinion the poor quality of food and service is because key staff are being seconded to the corporate event catering even the crockery and cutlery are not 5 star no soup spoons no steak knives no dessert forks or side plates ever just wrong.
Market cafe was ok plenty of choice but again lukewarm food why.
On a positive note the pool staff and sugar reef bar staff were amazing happy friendly helpful, drinks were very good special shout out to Santa who served our drinks by the pool what a hard worker walking round that pool in that heat carrying heavy trays all day and with a smile the girl deserves a medal,Max,Juan and another boy who I can't think of his name but they were also the best, also entertainments team deserve a mention Ladiva,Bella,Angel and MrBlue fun people and a credit to Secrets.
Have to say the days there were fabulous by a lovely pool being served nice drinks by lovely people forgot the barefoot grill for lunch was consistently good with happy smiley staff but the evenings were awful so bad we ended up spending the evening outside one of our rooms by the green area by building 5,never again.
Last year we went to Excellence Riviera Maya Mexico a proper couples resort and hoped Secrets would offer a similar experience wrong Excellence brand blows Secrets out of the water.
Would we return never in a million years in my opinion if you want a quiet relaxed vibe with good food this is not the place £5000 badly spent

We just got back from Secrets Cap Cana to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. We haven’t even made it all the way home, and we’re so sad we had to leave such a beautiful resort and the people that treated us like true friends. The resort was super clean and lovely. We stayed on the preferred side, and really liked it because it seemed a bit quieter. Our butler, Narciso, was wonderful and very helpful. He arranged several beautiful dinners for us, and took several worries out of our hands. The food at the restaurants was good. Our favorites for dinner were were Portofina and Bordeaux. Our favorite restaurant for breakfast was Rosewater. Serefino and his staff were top notch. Great service and yummy food. Luis Miguel at Seaside Grille and Bordeaux was our favorite waiter. Everything with him as a waiter was “Super Duper” and “Excellente”. Thanks so much to Luis Miguel for making our stay extra special! Our friends at the beach preferred club bar were amazing as well. Carlos was the best bartender (Shake it Baby!). His sangria, Coco Loco and service were truly spectacular. We looked forward to seeing him everyday, and he treated us like true friends. The wait staff there were fantastic and friendly as well. A special thank you goes to Yaniris, Cesar, Martha and Petronila. They were a great team and worked well with each other and the guests. This was such a great resort, and we can’t wait to go back again!

We had our wedding at Secrets Cap Cana in April 2016. Could not have asked for a better experience. Johanna (our wedding coordinator) was supremely knowledgeable, helpful and made our day absolutely perfect! Planning a destination wedding at this resort was the easiest thing I have ever done, and was executed by Johanna and her staff with the utmost class, style and warmth. The vendors she provided were even better than one would ever dream of! We could not be happier with our experience. The entire resort was clean, friendly and exceptionally service oriented. We will most definitely be going back!

Room Tip: if you can upgrade to the premium level rooms, it is worth every penny!

Not far from the airport. Our room (3505) had an amazing view of not only the pool but the ocean, too. We were kept well stocked with towels and refreshments for the mini bar. Building concierge, Enrique, took very good care of us. The pools were great but the beach was AWESOME! Walked all he way down to Juanillo Beach and back one morning!! Many activities to do at both the beach and pools!! The drinks were very good...watch for the drink of the day!! Servers found us wherever we were!! The food at the Market Café (breakfast, lunch) was buffet style and very good...early visits allowed us zero issues on what we wanted and Jennifer took good care of us. Dinner at Portofino was excellent. Ate at both the Seaside Grill and Oceana, both meals were very good. The resort was beautiful, the staff was amazing, very friendly, attentive, too! Would do this again in a heartbeat. Think I may be ruined...all inclusive AND adult only is THE way to go. I can't even imagine what a preferred stay gets one!!

Room Tip: Watch "tropical view", may likely be a construction view. Room 3505 had an amazing view of the ocean and sunrise!!

My husband and I spent our honeymoon at Secrets Cap Cana and we were extremely satisfied with our stay. We were greeted with champagne and cool towels when we arrived. We booked a Preferred Junior Suite so we were able have a private check-in near our room and had a private bartender who mixed us up some drinks quickly after we arrived on the resort. Our room was on the 4th floor which was great because we could see out to the private preferred pool and beach. We had a breathtaking view! The pictures of the rooms are accurate of what you see on their website. The room, balcony and bathroom was spacious and beautiful.

Our service across the resort was outstanding. Our butler's name was Giulia and she was excellent! She made our stay very special from the moment we got there. When she found out it was our honeymoon she made sure to upgrade our service with breakfast in bed, put a banner on our door and on our last night she set up rose petals on the bed, a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. She even met with the travel vendor for the arrangements of our pickup to the airport for departure and made sure she communicated everything we needed to know. Our service from the bartenders, cocktail servers and hosts were all very friendly and helpful.

The food was good. My favorites were the Oceana and the Rosewater restaurants. They both had great selections and food was hot and delicious. We also had great service at the Rosewater by Serefino and Ruth. They made the environment very fun and inviting. The buffet was good. My husband enjoyed it a lot. They have a lot to choose from and kept the food fresh. I'm not a big buffet eater but I did enjoy the bloody Mary bar. I enjoyed eating breakfast at the Rosewater. My least favorite restaurants were the Seaside Grill and the Japanese restaurant. Service was good, I just wasn't impressed with the food.

We did not partake in any excursions or shows while we were there but they did offer entertainment and free non-motorized sports on the beach and had other off the resort excursions available if you were interested. We enjoyed listening to the live music in the main lobby while admiring the view and sipping cocktails.

If you are looking for a romantic stay I would highly recommend upgrading to a preferred room if able. You will have access to the private pool, preferred private beach area as well as access to the Rosewater and breakfast at the Oceana. If traveling with a group you will have plenty of fun at the main pool where they hosted lots of activities and music day and evening.

The resort was about 15-20 minutes from the airport. We pre-arranged travel to and from the airport and used bookit.com to book our entire travel which I was nervous about but was very easy. I would highly recommend pre-purchasing your travel cards before arriving to Punta Cana to skip the line when you arrive.

We fell in love with Punta Cana and were in awe the entire time. The resort was beautiful. We hope to return again someday.

Room Tip: Book a "Preferred" stay
