Go in morning if possible as the clouds sometimes rolling at noon and visibility is greatly reduced. The view of the area is spectacular.

This one is so much fun. Loved the cable car. Loved that you could see all of Puerto Plata at the top. It is so much fun driving around the city too and see where the local live. This one is great for all ages.

We were staying at blue bay villas Dorados in Jan/feb and visited cable cars in Puerto plata.
To keep a long story as short as possible Thomsons wanted 60$ pp for this half day trip, a cab at hotel will cost 60$ per cab for same trip but you have to pay your own admission fees etc which is still a cheaper way to do it! But THEE cheapest and best (imho) way to go is talk to one of the blokes that hang around the entrance of your complex. These guys wear orange shirts with an official badge saying they work for the government in short guides. We struck a deal with our man Santana for 1000 pesos 20$ though he was reluctant to strike any deal i insisted. Took us to brugal rum factory which we paid 5$ pp for short tour and bought some rum at good prices. Then it was in another local (bus) which is infact a 12 seater hybrid taxi up to Puerto plata. After a brisk uphill 10 min walk (you can easily stop a cab) we were at the cable cars. We paid 8$ pp for cars and of we went. Santana waited for us at the bottom and told us to take as long as we liked though 1 and half hours was plenty for us. Afterwards we jumped in taxi with Santana into town and did a bit of shopping and a bite to eat at local street cafe, then Santana stopped a local 12 seater for us and we paid him and said farewell as he lives in this area. There is a name for these cabs but i cant recall what? Anyway 50 pesos for two, about a pound is the price! They dropped us off at Dorados complex after a unique experience of being in a 12 seater with 22 adults and a child onboard at one point! I kid you not!! Hence the prices. Anyway for the Thomson prices and what we spent we had souvenirs, rum, fed and right good experience plus £s left over. Only recommendation would be dont bother about town as not missing much oh and get Santana as guide.

For 8$ a 10 min. ride up the mountain. Beautiful views. Do it early as the mountain gets cloudy in the afternoon.

We managed to get to the top before the clouds rolled in. Breath taking views! Many things to see once at the top.
