This place is a bargain and has more good than bad! Unfortunately, the bad was pretty bad, mostly due to poor management (Not poor managers, it was not any individuals fault). We booked online and selected the Ocean Front honeymoon suite and paid up front, upon check in we were given our keys and realized that we had a standard Ocean View room (and by view they meant if you bend over to your left and cock your head you can maybe see the ocean). I corrected the very kind woman assisting us that this was not even close to what we booked and PAID for. She said she realizes that but unfortunately none of those rooms are available and they would happy to give us a credit for a spa treatment or dinner for 2 on the beach, with no mention of a refund for the difference in the room rates! We asked to speak to the manager. He too was very kind but offered us a King suite on the other side of the property but we can't move into it until 5:00 tomorrow. We ended up taking the ocean front the next day room and it was outstanding although a burden. We were travelling with 11 people and we all requested the same building so we could be close. So they remained on one side of the resort and we were on the other. In the end we took it to be certain we were getting what we paid for. Later we come to find out that 2 of the other couple who booked ocean front ALSO DID NOT RECIEVE OCEAN FRONT ROOMS!!! One of them was offered $50 for their inconvenience when the price difference was $300!!! Apparently the online booking for Sunscape (www.sunscaperesorts.com) uses a 3rd party booking agent and there's some major miscommunication! They had no idea what the rate differences were advertisesd as, they obviously are selling rooms that are not available, and the worst of it is they do not feel as though they should comminicate room discrepencies until you arrive. It was an absolutely TERRIBLE way to start your vacation.

That being said.... we had a FANTASTIC time! Most of the staff was friendly and helpful with a few exceptions. The food at the hibachi was great. The buffet was even pretty good even though I rarely have high expectations for all inclusives. The pools were clean and the beaches were stunning! Even if we never got our ocean front room I wouldn't have had a bad time as with good friends and unlimited drinks and the beautiful beach you would be hard pressed to be disappointed. Great place to go with a group. Curacao is a wonderful island.

Be sure to request preferred membership to get access to the private pool area. And the royal tower is the most recently renovated with gorgeous rooms.

Room Tip: Royal Tower has fantastic master suites! Newly renovated. However the Flamingo rooms are right outside the private pool if you get the preffered suites.

Beautiful resort; helpful, fun staff; lots of nice pools, and good beach.
The Casino was also enjoyable with good $5 min. BJ. tables.
It was overcast and windy at times; but that avoided too much heat; and very pleasant evenings.
Note that RBC band cards did not work on the resort ATM.

Room Tip: Take room facing pool area for better views.

The resort was Princess Beach years ago when I first visited. It has changed hands over the years and has had several facelifts. We went for our 5th Wedding Anniversary and were upgraded to the V.I.P. Our room 8118 was very nice, modern, great patio overlooking the pool and ocean, washroom is very tiny. This is the quieter end of the resort. Take beach shoes, the water is very rocky, man made beach, snorkeling is average. Don't waste money on the Romantic beach Lobster dinner....stone cold. The Italian a-la-carte is by far the best, followed by the Seafood. The grill was average and the Asia, let's face it, if you've seen one chef show you've seen 'em all. Overall very good service, the best bar tender was Rosario I believe, best waitresses were from Jamaica and worked at the Italian and Seafood. Bartender ate the V.I.P. section makes awesome drinks. Grounds are average, I'd give it 3.5 star. Room for improvement is at the front desk and at the table where you book reservations for various outings or general inquiries, training is needed to fix this problem. Other than that, very relaxed week.

Room Tip: Book the V.I.P. section if you enjoy quiet

Just got back from Sunscape in Curacao. We had a wonderful time, the hotel had everything that we were looking for. We didn't have to go far to the beach or pool, and the restaurants were all close by no golf carts to take you around. The staff was so friendly and very helpful, if we had an issue it was dealt with immediately. Plenty of towels in the washroom and our fridge was stocked up daily with water bottles we didn't have to phone or complain about anything.
Weather was beautiful, hot, hot, hot just the way we wanted it to be.
Thank-you Sunscape for making our vacation a memorable one.

Room Tip: Royal Tower is the best

Our quick review is that we had a fantastic week here and we’d definitely go back again… it was worth it!

Why did we say that? Here’s why…

We stayed at Sunscape Curacao Resort Spa & Casino two weeks ago, and we truly felt like we were on “vacation”. There was a very relaxed atmosphere wherever we went, and it was one of the first times when we didn’t feel the urge to leave a resort to seek out other activities. We could’ve spent the entire week just relaxing on the beach!

The Resort - The resort itself is very clean, modernized, and well spread out while at the same time close to everything. There are quiet parts of the resort, as well as areas where you’re surrounded with the sights and sounds of people having a good time on their vacation… where, and what you want to do on vacation, is ultimately up to you.

Resort Staff - Their staff were cheerful and eager to greet us with a warm smile and a friendly “welcome” wherever we went. Actually, there were so many great staff that we lost track of everyone’s names to congratulate them individually.

Our Room & Amenities - Our room was located on the second floor of the Tower (facing the restaurants), and we were very pleased with it overall. It was a large room, which included an ultra-comfortable king sized bed (actually, one of the best beds we’ve enjoyed at a resort); a flat-screen TV with an ample selection of channels; a mini-fridge that was stocked with water/beer/pop at your request; a programmable lock-box in the closet which was large enough to hold a laptop and other personal valuables, as well as a large bathroom with a modern sink/toilet/stand-up shower. Some other pleasant amenities included having several two-prong power outlets (North American plugs); a hair dryer; having a towel rack on the balcony, as well as two emergency-candles and a pack of matches in one of the nightstand tables. (You might think that’s odd, but the entire neighbourhood had a blackout one night so they definitely come in handy.) The air-conditioning worked well, and there were wall-to-wall blackout curtains that comforted late sleepers as well as helping block out the hot mid-day sun.

Food & Drinks - Food for the most part was very good wherever we went, and you’d never go hungry judging from the options available at the restaurants/buffet. Our personal favourite was actually the buffet, which we have to applaud the Resort for always replenishing whenever we visited. We never left there feeling unsatisfied or missing out on something. Drinks were plentiful too, and while they offer a wide selection of the usual slushy-drinks, they also feature higher end whiskeys/vodkas/cognacs too. (Desert some evenings was simply Crown Royal on ice and a cigar by the piano bar.)

Resort Activities - Their activity staff were very good, and there were plenty of options besides aqua-fit for working off those Pina Colada’s. You can borrow non-motorized water equipment, and we highly recommend trying some snorkeling in the reef area of the beach. Even first-timers would enjoy it as you can borrow a life jacket to just float on the surface over the reef. The resort also has a volleyball court on the beach, shuffleboard, horseshoes, and for fitness fans the Resort has an excellent workout room that seemed to go underused most of the time.

Entertainment - Kudos to the Resort for always having entertainment in the late afternoons and evenings. Guests can enjoy live music playing at either the pool or by the coffee-bar, as well as nightly events on the beach which include karaoke, movies under the stars, live shows and the not to be missed Carnival Parade. (definitely bring your camera for that one!)

Safety/Security - For us, we felt at ease wherever we went. There were uniformed security staff throughout the complex, but they didn’t give off an intimidating presence. You could see that they watched out for who was a guest of the resort versus who needed some “personal attention”.

Day Excursions - Curacao is a wonderful country, and we’re of the opinion that a traveler should always look beyond a Resort’s walls. Sunscape is located 4 km from the Curacao’s capital of Willemstad, which is only a fifteen minute bus ride into town. The resort offers two free shuttle-buses into town each day (by reservation), but do yourself a favour and hop on one of the local buses (it’s only $2 US) which will take you right into the heart of Punda. There’s also an Excursion desk in the Resort Lobby, so be sure to have a look at what’s available around the Island.

Other Tips - The Beach was great, and the water was fantastic for either wading in the shallows or for doing some snorkeling. One thing you might want to pack are some water shoes though, as the first few feet going into water has a lot of jagged stones and washed-up shells. The bottom drops quickly too, so be mindful where you are if you’re not a strong a swimmer – *** there are no life guards and/or rescue rings along the beach.

- If you need to keep up to date with what’s going on back home, visit the Main Lobby, the Casino or even the Water Sports Hut for FREE WiFi! There’s plenty of it in some areas, so we don’t understand why so many people are complaining about it like it's a vacation-breaker. Grab a drink, enjoy the shade and surf the waters rather than online!

We’re there any problems during our stay? Sure there were, but nothing that a few slow breaths and some patience couldn’t wipe away. Again, we had a fantastic week there and we’d definitely go back again… it was worth it!
