Know what you are getting into- Not all of the meals will be 5 star and the rooms are so-so (Ours had an air conditioning on the fritz and a shower head that didn't attach to the top). But if you expect the Ritz-Carlton you shouldn't be in Cuba to begin with. The rooms have an amazing view, the beach is phenomenal, and if you like to dance the Discoteca is LIT every evening.
Also the bartenders are phenomenal. Especially Yenisel and Marlon, the bartenders at the diamond club beach. (would reccomend diamond both for the more private beach and the extra a la carte options) and can honestly say that our trip would not have been the same without these two beauties.
My one genuine complaint would be that some of the washrooms were in pretty rough shape (especially the ones by the pool bar).
Other tips- bring a bubba to get filled at the bar instead of having to go up over and over again. Bring some snacks like protein or granola bars, go to Havana because its beautiful, and do a la carte at the Japanese restaurant.
