This paladar was recommended by the casa owner who said she only refers people to places she has actually eaten in. It may be because after the hurricane there were few tourists about. I passed it again on the week end and there were lights on so it may have been open. If you are going to travel to get here then it may be advisable to check beforehand.

We wanted to try an authentic paladar restaurant allowed in Cuban homes since 1996 by the communist government. This one is located along the popular central promenade walking area, and we decided to give it a try. You enter on the street and climb stairs, passing what appear to be the residential rooms, until you reach the restaurant area on a prime upper floor with a terrace and balcony. Obviously family owned and operated, it was a positive experience for us.

Suggestion to owners of this and other restaurants, if they ever read this: When there are no customers along the outer balcony area, have the staff sit at those tables. looking like they are having a great time. Most tourists will not be the first to try a place, and, in fact, other tourists did arrive after we sat along the railing and ordered food and beers.

The food is nice and fresh, the restaurant conveniently situated in the town centre.
We had some Ropa Vieja, the typical Cuban recipe and it was very nice. Also the grilled chicken was well cooked and extremely tasty.
We were welcomed by the owner. The 2 chefs in the kitchen were nice and reassuring. One of them is a lady that has been working in the restaurant for 20 years. We would go back any time, It is a decent, good value for money restaurant.

A few hours after arriving in Havana, we were looking for a place to eat for an early lunch. We were guided to this place by a panhandler, but we're not disappointed. The view from the balcony prove to be a good people watching perch. My friend ordered black beans and rice with plantings. I ordered just rice as I was not very hungry yet. The race was spectacular and Full of flavor. My friend liked her meal as well. I ordered the Flawn with all the hopes of a good dessert. I was sorely disappointed as it was a strange taste and surrounded by an even stranger mint syrup. Skip it. The staff were friendly and the food was cheap.

We were walking down the Prado Blvd and stumbled on this restaurant. There was one of the owners standing in front of the steps and we asked him to see a menu. He ran upstairs and brought us the menu. This is a typical paladare family restaurant. We decided to give it a try and boy was that the right decision.
We were seated out on the balcony overlooking the blvd and the service was superb. The waitress took our drink order and served the drinks quickly. There was no pressure to order immediately and we had ample time to peruse the menu and ask questions. We both decided on the grilled lobster, which is served with brown rice and beans, salad and veggies.
lol and behold the meal is served about 30 minutes later and what a shock. We each had 2, minimum 12ounce grilled lobster tails that were shelled and filleted. They were grilled to perfection and were the best tasting lobster we had on this trip. We returned again to see if it was a fluke and surprise-surprise it wasn't. We received the same 2 lobster tails at the same phenomenal price, $17 for everything.

I am sorry to say that this is a better restaurant than any of the premium ones we ate at. The service and atmosphere better as well.

DO NOT MISS!!!

PS: they have a complete menu.
