This is a basic inexpensive resort that is functional due to its proximity to Havana. Despite its negatives, it may just work for you. Grounds are quite large and pretty and has a nice pool and a beach nearby. Rooms are basic and it’s a hit and miss with hot water. Toilet can smell like a sewer at times and since all rooms are ground level expect bugs. Staff are friendly and service is good. Local bus (A40), stop is on highway and takes you in to Havana for CUP 1 Peso National (that converts to 4 or 5 cents CUC). T3 Tourist Bus will do the same for CUC 5 return fare, but pick up is at 10:40 am and thereafter they may not come in to the Hotel. Last T3 return from Havana is at 6 pm and will drop you off at the highway. Be careful when crossing the highway. This resort is not for Luxury seekers, Honeymooners or if you have children. Mange dogs and several cats inhabit the premises. The dogs get aggressive at dusk and at night and will bark at you if you are walking around at night. I was even attacked by two while walking to my room. This resort is more for seasoned travellers and budget conscious tourists who just want a cheap deal, a nice pool and beach, and easy access to Havana. It was B/F only, but for CUC 7 you can have the dinner buffet, which for the price is a good deal. There is a nice restaurant, El Bacura, nearby which I did try twice and is a 10 min walk. Not sure if I can recommend this resort, but if you want a cheap deal this may just suit your needs and pocket. It will be fine if you are not picky and don’t look for faults, and oh yes, are not afraid of dogs. This resort is a weekend retreat for local Cubans, which can be fun and social, but also noisy and boisterous. Weekdays are quiet. I would only recommend this resort to budget conscious seasoned travellers who want a cheap deal close to Havana.

Room Tip: View of Cove but away from the pool area.

they fixed it up some since last time. weekend party place for Cuban day off,fun and friendly crowd. then its back to quiet for the rest of the week. expensive longusta and fish on the beach next door, the 1 inch gaps between the door when its closed and the deck allow some night bugs in , a scorpion got beat to death in my neighbours room. I saw it and he was a healthy size. I personally had a pet tarantula a couple years back, but he stayed outside under my deck planter. the place is still great value none the less as Havana prices on hotels has doubled and some places tripled. two years ago hotel Saratoga was 224.00 now its 600.00 per night, prices in Havana have to be shopped for. much more asking for money on the streets unless maybe im dressed as a walking dollar bill. when staying at bacuranao do not miss the opportunity to eat at el bacura restaurant they make the best mojitos and I don't even like mojitos didn't do now. the whole place is beautiful. its a true oasis in a otherwise quiet area. reasonably priced and all good you ll see. one more thing everday by the pool is a barbecue where they roast chicken half a bird with a beer and rice ,tomato and fried banana chips for 4.5 cuc, excellent. getting to Havana should cost around 10 to 15 cuc at most or el cheapo a local bus for about a quarter, or cheaper yet stick out a hand, before you go check out Havana and what to do there on trip advisor , itll save you time and spend more time seeing what interests you, never roam outside your room without toilet paper, just don't. unless you re in the ocean.

Room Tip: I prefer close to the front, but quiet in the back and you can see and hear the ocean.

    Hi all,
I just returned from a weeklong stay at the Bacuranao resort and here is my review. First of all I booked this through VoyagesBergeron.com leaving from Montreal in single occupancy for 8 days $568.00 Canadian dollars including breakfast. Before you read more, just so you know, this is not the place to come to if you are on your honeymoon, or traveling with kids. This place is geared for experienced world travellers that have experienced very basic accommodations, and can survive if they do not have running water for several days. It happened to a four star last week, the Starfish in Cayo Santa Maria, no running water for one week, remember you are in the Republica de Cuba these issues do happen. But if you want cheap accommodations twenty minutes from Havana look no further. Upon my arrival I was greeted with a smile and asked to sign in. I asked for the key to the safe, with the deposit it was 31 CUC. I was given the room key 17 and off I went. The room was nicer than I had expected, flat screen TV, two single beds, mural air conditioner. I opened the cupboard to access the safe but it had been removed, so went back to the reception and she apologized since she said that she didn’t know that that room was safe less, I got a refund and that was that. The air conditioner did not work to well and it did leak about a cup of water a day, but hey remember this is Cuba. Breakfast was served from 6:30 to 10:00 and was ok. Egg, cheese, fruits, toast enough food to start the day. They do leave doors and windows open so yes there are flies in the dining room. The pool is great! Probably renovated less than a year ago, clean and nothing bad to report. Lunch can be had by the pool for a few dollars but it is limited and not for the faint hearted person. I usually do not comment on restaurants, but there is a restaurant that is less than a ten minute walk called El Bacura and you will get a much better dollar value in clean conditions. There is also another restaurant right on the beach but I would definitely not recommend. The beach is beautiful to look at from the road but can be dangerous to wander around, lots of debris and perhaps some less courteous people, it’s up to you to decide. Personally I prefer the Maria Del Estre beach which is only five minute by car, nicer sand and a lot less garbage. So here you have my review, and for the final question, would I return to this hotel? Absolutely, the plus is that it is close to Havana and still acceptable if you can cope with things that only seem to happen in Cuba.

We booked a last minute package deal for super cheap and stayed here at Villa Barcoanao. The main thing to remember is this: The sheets are clean and the place is secure. Period. If that's all you need with your little dose of Cuban sunshine, you're good. The staff is friendly. The pool is clean. There is a little tienda (corner store) right on the property so you can buy water, rum and snacks. The breakfast was the only meal we felt comfortable eating. (I mean, cmon, how bad can you f-up eggs?) Other than that, there is a good restaurant a 10 minute walk away. For us, the BEST part of this place was this: we were at a beach, it was cheap and we were a 40 cent public bus ride away from downtown Havana. We went into Havana almost every day and it was fantastic. The public bus runs very regularly and is easy to figure out. So, if you know that the restaurant is terrible, (except for breakfast, that was good) but you're ok with that, then this place is all you need.

Room Tip: Ask for a room by the water.

Just stayed solo for my third time. I gave it 5 stars because of the amazing low deal I always get here. The beach is right next to the hotel and it is fabulous, albeit small. There is a little store beside the beach as well and you can also buy a fresh seafood lunch on the beach and cocktails. There is a fabulous restaurant about a 5 minute walk away.
The rooms are basic but clean. The TV had lots of good english channels and the air conditioning was perfect. This time I had a better room than usual with 2 really comfortable beds. There is a nice pool that is often filled with Cubans partying but I didn't go there because the beach is beautiful.
On Saturday there is an outside disco by the dining room that a TON of Cubans go to. It was pretty fun.
This hotel is 10 mins from Havana ~ 5 cent local bus, 5 cuc shuttle, or 10 cuc taxi.
I love staying here because you really do get it all.
