Celebrating is style - Nikko Hotel, Bali don't look any further!

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 20 Sept 2019
Last week we stayed at the Nikko Hotel in Bali to celebrate my wife 's and my birthdays.
We had our family with us and our dear friends from Perth. The whole event was organised, from our end, by our daughter Karolina but this review is about the Nikko Hotel and its wonderful Event Manager Mr Manik.
It was a beautiful night. We rented an amazing room with a massive terrace (with a cabana) at the rooftop of the hotel overlooking the gardens and the ocean. Mr Manik organised the most delicious selection of cocktail food and supervised the service which was impeccable. He provided us with some extra services (eg. speakers etc) at no cost which was very nice of him (and the hotel). He is a very personable man with a good sense of humour. He told us: "I am Manik, please don't panic"and indeed we didn't have to panic about anything - it was simply a perfect night. Our guests were equally impressed. If you're planning a weeding, birthday celebrations or any other occasion, we would definitely recommend the Nikko Hotel. Apart from our party, we thoroughly enjoyed our 1 week stay there. The breakfast buffet was massive and scrumptious and the Japanese Restaurant's food was out of this world. Thank you Mr Manik and the Nikko Hotel! We look forward to our next visit.

Spent 7 nights in the beautiful ocean view suite. The room
Is very spacious with a lovely big balcony that you can watch the sunrise from. Bathroom is HUGE! Lovely stand alone bath tub which could easily fit two people. Plenty of sun beds for everyone to enjoy by the pool or on the beach. Staff were so welcoming and accommodating. Happy hour at Aloha Bar is a must! My first time going to a hotel with a swim up bar and it was glorious. About 20-25 mins taxi into Kuta / Legian which was only about $10 Aussie dollars. A special thank you to Carmelina who organised our beautiful accommodation, flights and transfers! It was my first time going to Bali and I appreciated her expert advice. Can’t wait to return!

Have never been to Tanjung Benoa before - always stay in the lively streets of Seminyak/Legian. Took advise from my agent who attended some Bali function in Brisbane and was impressed with the Nikko - value for money, right on the beach great option for me. So Gave it a go... WOW - amazing for a 6 night package - absolute VALUE - i did upgrade to a SUITE room - soooo worth it...This area is so worth visiting for a relaxing break away - it is not too quiet that it becomes boring - easy access to some shops outside, local restaurants, great water sport facilities right out the front!. Saying that Nikko's Italian restaurant and Japanese restaurant are AMAZING such value compared to back home! Would definitely recommend this hotel for couples, families with kids that want to be in the water doing activities and those that want another side to the CRAZY Bali traffic - this is heaven.. The SPA is fantastic too - Thanks MC for booking me here - glad you went to that function! Thanks Nikko I'll be back!

Room tip: Suite Rooms - worth the upgrade

Initially we were allocated a damp smelly room with mildewed bedroom chairs and outdoor chairs that frankly needed to be trashed....room dark no natural light which accounts for dampness and smell. Walls crumbling wallpaper peeling and marked, even the art work curling with damp. View of derelict building. Unpleasant and totally unexpected after staying at 2 incredible hotels in Seminyak and ubud we were expecting the same from this hotel.

Refused this room. Informed by receptionist that we could upgrade at our own expense. Bell boy very sweet and showed me choice of rooms we could upgrade to. Very polite caring and friendly.,We did this as no way were we staying in the damp cave! This was our last stay in Bali before heading home and didn't want it marred by inferior room! We are now in a huge pleasant room with pool and sea views well worth the cost of an upgrade. Small balcony to sit on in the evenings. Super king bed!

Manager later apologised for damp room and offered to reimburse our upgrade costs which was very good of him and recouped our view of the hotel to a positive one.

Housekeeping v attentive rooms kept clean and tidy. 2 big bottles water daily.
Buffet breakfast good and staff friendly and helpful. Lots of variety of food available. Lunch not required after big breakfast!

Pool gorgeous. Interesting design. Has waterfall. Not sure if ok for kids as gets deep quickly. I guess they just need to be constantly supervised. A few steps from pool is a beach. Small area but noticed children enjoying playing in sand there. Nice to have choice of swimming in pool and sea! Plenty of sun loungers. Busy area with lots of watersports going on out there ...fun to watch. Walkway along the beach front ....pleasant walk especially early evening.

Kids club available but we had no need. Also noticed some kids have babysitters presume provided by hotel. May want to check this out if you have kids.

Great spa .....staff are so professional friendly and talented with their treatments. Wonderful massage and facial... quite pricey tho in comparison with other hotel spas I used.

Have just eaten dinner at pool restaurant tasty made to order food and again super friendly staff.. dined solo as hubby unwell staff chatted to me ensuring I felt welcomed. Gave me plain white rice to take back unwell hubby. 👍

Overall a lovely relaxing place to stay once our initial room hitch solved. No need to dwell on it but good to be aware.

Feel that although the foyer area is grand impressive and well maintained the rest of the hotel rooms need to be upgraded and better maintained. Think this is happening tho.

The gardens are beautiful well done to the gardeners!
The hotel is on a busy street with easy access to plenty of great restaurants, bars and mini marts.

Aware there is a free bus twice daily to Kuta shopping area.

Small library of books available to borrow but all seem to be German language? Have added a couple of English ones myself. 👍

This was the 3rd hotel my husband and I visited while on vacation in Bali. I will say the front desk staff was definitely not as friendly as the previous two hotels we stayed at. Seemed like much of the staff on the grounds were not the best at english and that is totally fine! Everyone was so sweet and nice. We vistited the spa one day and it was wonderful. The pool is gorgeous although it definitely could use a facelift. Tiles were missing on the sides and bottom of the pool. We LOVED the sushi restaurant and all staff in the restaurant that we went twice during our stay. Each time we went though, sadly, we were only 1 of two parties inside. We noticed it does not pop up on the local maps and definitely think it would benefit from being online. The italian place was also very good! All in all, we had a great stay but my husband and I were a little bored. The town does not have any night life walking distance and the hotel has no evening activities which I think they could benefit from. It would get many people inside to eat/drink at their restaurants.

Dear HaleyNall,

Thank you for sharing the review from your recent visit to Hotel Nikko Bali Benoa Beach.

We are delighted to know that our attentive team had exceeded your expectations and completed your stay with a memorable experience. The 'sushi restaurant' you frequented was Nagisa Izakaya Bali, which albeit being a new culinary addition to our range of services, have been gathering a steady flow of positive reviews. You can find all of our restaurants on Google Maps by keying in the names.

We are pleased to share with you that we have now added evening entertainment at our dining venues and would love to have you back with us to enjoy the new live atmosphere paired with a fine selection of food at our restaurants.

Thank you for choosing Hotel Nikko Bali Benoa Beach and we look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

This hotel is rated as a 5 star hotel, however, in comparison to other 5 star hotels I’ve stayed in worldwide, it falls just short of the mark. I’d rate it 4 at the best.

We stayed for ten days and found that the staff are very friendly, courteous and helpful. Nothing seemed to be a problem for them. This included reception, restaurant, security, housekeeping, spa and maintenance staff. These are the hotels best assets.

We upgraded to a room with a balcony overlooking the pool and the sea. Great for sitting out in the late afternoon, having a few drinks and watching the world go by. Unfortunately, the room lets the hotel down. The room, whilst big, is very tired and needs updating. We had issues with the shower hot water in our room as it was only luke warm. A call to housekeeping and we very soon had a maintenance person come up and check. Yes there was a problem, however, they fixed it very quickly. Unfortunately it was only a temporary fix as we suffered from irregular hot water for the rest of holiday. The shower unit itself was showing signs of wear with a tile broken and rust from the metal frame running down the tiles.

The toilet was another matter, it seemed to smell every time it was used. Talking to other guests, they seemed to have the same problems. Obviously a hotel issue.

We had breakfast every morning and again the staff were excellent with a wide selection of food to cater for every taste.

The pool area was very well maintained as are the grounds. A credit to the staff who looked after this area. There were always plenty of deck chairs which we used on a daily basis. At times we used the pool waiter service for lunch and had no issues with our orders.

We did dine at one of the three in house restaurants, but for most of the time we utilised the street restaurants as this gave us a more interesting experience of the Balinese culture. We found the food in these street restaurants to be excellent and the service superb.

We also availed ourselves of an hour long massage each and found it to be a very relaxing experience. Again, the staff were excellent and very professional. I would recommend this as a great way to unwind.

Would I stay there again...... Taking everything into account, the positives outweigh the negatives, so probably yes.
