“Nice for a rainy day”

We wanted to go hiking in Grindelwald, but the weather was bad. So we wanted to do something else in the area. So we ended up here, which was a good alternative.

We have a visitor pass, so the entrance fee was 16 instead of 18 francs. Parking for 4 hours (which is enough time) was 3 francs.

There will be a guided tour available, but I have to say that the information was not that interesting. He told a short story about Beatus living near the cage and a fairy tale about him beating a dragon. I personally do not like stories like this.
So you can easily do this walk yourself.

You will walk about 1km under ground and see some nice places in the cave. There are some waterfalls and some mirror lakes.

It was a nice visit.

I decided to catch the boat from the Interlaken West train station to a landing near St Beatus Caves. The walk up from the boat to St Beatus Caves was a struggle. It was steep and very hard work in the heat of the day. It was, however, very beautiful walking through the trees and wild flowers. Once at the Caves the view was amazing. It was impossible to take a bad photo. We did the self guided tour which was easy but there is a guided option available if you need. The fortress surrounding the opening of the cave has a cafe and rest rooms. This is a great space to collect yourself after the steep walk up. Inside the Caves is pretty easy going. There are plenty of hand rails but good non slip shoes should be worn. It can get cold inside but we were comfortable with a light top and jeans. The walk down to the bus stop was very steep but again just take your time and use the hand rails. There are plenty of seats to sit on along the way. We enjoyed our trip to the Caves and all slept very well that evening.

A place you should include in your itinerary, if you are visiting interlaken. You have to catch the bus from a Interlaken. The route from interlaken to St Beatus itself is scenic with lake on one side. The stalactites and stalagmites in the caves, the stream flowing through it etc makes this an attractive destination. Remember to take a guided tour. And in the afternoon, there is a boat to return to interlaken. And every 30 minutes, you will get a bus too to go back to interlaken

There is a nice evening walk up to the entrance of the cave with an awesome sightseeing of the lake and the waterfall.
The guided tour is totally recommended, and included in the entrance, this place is just magic!

This cave tour was wonderful. You walk 1k into the mountain. The tour guide was very knowledgeable, and presented things in an entertaining way. Our children loved it. It is beautiful. The surroundings are landscaped impeccably. The waterfall coming out of the cave is gorgeous. The museum is tiny.
