A great spot literally on the Eastern most part of Canada, right on the ocean with seals and all manner of sea wildlife, birds, and views to take your breath away. Walk 100 yards to the beach or directly onto the East Coast trail. The ocean air is intoxicating as are the views, the culture, the people. No shortage of things to do including whale watching, trails, lighthouse picnics, arts and crafts, just meeting the incredibly friendly folks in the area. Take in a concert, or festival. I could go on and on. So much going on in The Irish Loop, this part of the Avalon Peninsula. You're just an hour and 20 minutes from St. John's with so much to see along the way, and places to stop and see every 10 or fifteen minutes. Morton's Ocean House is immaculately clean, well appointed with fully equipped kitchen, laundry, tv, wifi, and comfy beds for delicious sleeps. The master bedroom features a gorgeous view of the ocean. We will be back soon!
We had a fantastic stay at Morton's Ocean House! The house is beautiful and fully equipped with whatever you could need. The view was amazing and you can't help but always be gazing out to the ocean. The master bedroom view is so great you don't want to get up and leave it! Karen and Andy have done a fantastic job making this house a home away from home. There is a path down to the ocean where you can watch sea life and birds, or hike along the East Coast Trail. Karen made sure we knew all of the things there were to do around the area and we tried to do it all, but have left some for next time. I highly recommend Morton's Ocean House and thank Karen and Andy for making sure our stay was amazing!
Just back from our stay at Morton's Ocean House, Cappahayden, Newfoundland.
A true east coast experience from the drive down along the coastal highway to the moment you walk in this nicely appointed home with Newfoundland accents. A cosy house with everything you need to experience your home away from home. The view each morning from the master bedroom was a surprise! We saw seabirds, seals, hikers passing by along the shore, boats, fog horn, rock formations peaking out of the sea and the anticipation of catching a glimpse of the moose or a whale in our cove was thrilling. Every meal at the house was enjoyed overlooking the ocean from the porch room or on the deck. This is definately a must for all hiking and nature enthusiasts as the east coast trail is right there, along the shoreline of this property. The marked trail follows along a rocky picturesque coast with so many little treasures to behold. The landscape of this region is truly breathtaking! A sturdy bench only a short hike away atop a steep rock face overlooks this beautiful cove and shoreline.
A grocery store visit brought us into a nearby village and led us to meeting the locals who graciously invited us to activities & events in the community. The Newfoundland people are so friendly and welcoming.
We enjoyed daily road trips from the house by rental car.
The Irish Loop on the Avalon Peninsula and the loop around the Bonavista Penninsula held many interesting, sights, sounds and food experiences. The history and people's own stories of this beautiful province are endless. We enjoyed many hiking trips, visited all sorts of lighthouses and historical sites, saw 5 different icebergs, Puffins, Seals, a minke whale and several moose! Experienced seafood galore, lobster, scallops, snails, mussels, cod fish and more! Yum!!
THANKYOU to Karen & Andrew for trip tips & recommendations which made our first trip to Newfoundland a memorable and fulfilling experience. We will be back!
