This new agriturismo Masseria Camarda (opened in June 2013) is located in the country side between the villages of Ceglie Messapica (10 minutes drive) and the white city Ostuni (8 minutes drive). There are two standard rooms, two ‘trullio’s’ (130 per night, breakfast included) and a small house (called a suite), all with their own patio and all decorated in a stylish and romantic way. The suite and the trullio’s have a small kitchen/fridge. On the farm different products are produced such as various vegetables, fruit and olive oil. In a little shop on the premises you are able to buy some of the local products. Breakfast is provided in a cosy breakfast room where Martina prepares great cappuccino with home baked cookies. Every morning she picks up the superb fresh yoghurt from the near by cheese farm (which is also producing fresh, fantastic burrata and mozzarella cheese). All other breakfast ingredients are from the farm. Fresh fruit, marmelade, cakes and bread made from local grain, no cheese/meat or eggs. Owner Cesare Fiorio (a former Formula One sporting director for Ferrari and former team manager of Lancia's factory World Rally Championship team) is a special host, with a sharp eye for detail and quality. It feels like his focus is all the time on comforting his guests. With good advice, nice suggestions or little gestures (like nice salty cookies). We especially loved the opportunities to pick the vegetables and fruit from the land and cook our own meals with fresh tomatoes, courgettes, aubergine, almonds, figs, pears, peaches, melon, herbs etc. And of course, using the very well tasting olive oil of the farm. A fantastic experience! If you do not want to cook, don't worry, 2 km away you find a nice, quality restaurant. Bikes could also be rented (15 euro pd) to discover the nice area. Many pituresque villages are just a short drive away and it takes only a 20-25 minutes drive to the beach. However, we enjoyed so much being at this peaceful accommodation that we hardly left the place. There is free parking and WIFI (however the reception at the trullio’s/standard rooms is better than in the suite). The place is safe, not only protected by a gate but also by the three friendly dogs. Be aware you do not walk into the huge cactus trees. The only disadvantage, a part from the many flies, is the fact that you are not able to stay for ever. Something which we would have liked to do….!
