Beautiful views and great value for money

Review of Hotel Barolo
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 24 Aug 2020via mobile
One of the most beautiful views we’ve seen from a hotel room. The pool was beautiful and staff around the pool do their best to offer you a bed depending on the number of bookings that day. The pool area is run independently, so is used by other tourists in the region and locals. This gave it a great atmosphere, but it was busy compared to other hotel pools and hotel guests aren’t prioritised for beds. Breakfast was as good as everywhere else we visited in Italy. Lovely size room and perfect for our 4 day trip. Easy to walk to the rest of the town and a short drive to many other beautiful towns in the area.

Had lunch at hotel barolo. A very average risotto with barolo wine. Then a terrible dry rabitt in an diffuse sauce. The polenta had enjoyed a long time in the heating cabinet. The waiters was disorganised and did not communicate between them selves.

      First Impressions
Nestled amongst the vines in the village of Barolo this traditional Italian hotel with views over the village and the vineyards is ideal place to stay if you are touring the region. The welcome was friendly and the staff were very accommodating.

      The Rooms & Facilities.
The rooms were spacious and very traditional and are decorated in a clean and non fussy manner. The bed was comfortable and the bed linen was spotless. The bathroom has a shower curtain than a door but the water is hot and plentiful. This is a lovely place to stay and the family are very accommodating. The TV is dated but why be in the room when you can be drinking out on the balcony that overlooks the village and vineyards. There is a great pool with a bar area and sunbeds. The hotel restaurant is good and serves traditional local cuisine.

      Service.
The service was excellent, all the staff were very accommodating and nothing was too much trouble.
      Overall
I enjoyed my stay here it was a great hotel with first class service and I would not hesitate in returning.

We stayed in the original part not the new build part.
The entrance is through a large wooden door with a wine bottle for a counter balance which just sets the scene. There is a lift or you can walk up the steps to the first floor reception.
The rooms are decorated in a clean and non fussy manner. The mattress was comfortable and the white bed linen crisp.
The bathroom has a shower curtain than a door but the water is hot and plentiful.
There are complimentary toiletries and even a toothbrush!

This is a lovely place to stay and the family are on hand.
There is no WiFi in the old rooms and the TV is dated but why be in the room when you can be drinking out on the terrace.

Deciding to tank some sunshine before our long winter, we effectively had warm and dry weather until we left. This summer was again an extremely dry season ending just as we departed towards north.
We recommend this family hotel since they are very customer oriented, they invested in new rooms and facilities. Great outdoor swimming pool, with nearly freezing water temperature, great contrast to the outside temperature so long the sun was out there. Mid-September the days are pretty short with cold nights. Barolo is a great location for great hiking through the winyards. To recommend is the hike from the hotel to La Morra and back. The hotel can sell you for 6 Euros a great hiking map of the entire region. The best Barolo wineries are all around and offer you great tours and tastings.
