“Overwhelming power !”

Swamimalai Murugan Temple
Reviewed 15 August 2017 via mobile

It was such a great blessing to be seated in front of Lord Swaminatha Swami in the Sannidhi having the Darshan of the splendorous, special Abishekam of the day ! It was so overwhelming ! We were here on the first Sunday of the month, it was very crowded. Om Murugaa!

I visit almost every year to Swamimalai. Best thing is to witness abhishekam (is a Sanskrit term akin to puja, yagya and arati that denotes: a devotional activity). Temple is open from morning 6 am to 1 PM most of the days. Eveing again from 4 or 4:30 uptil 8:30 or 9 PM. Main temple can be reached by climbing 60 steps. Each step name is denoted by a tamil year name.

As part of the Arupadai Veedu temples of Lord Muruga, this temple is one of the most impressive of Murugan temples anywhere in the world. Believed to be the place where Muruga taught his own father (Lord Shiva), don't miss out on visiting this temple when you are in Kumbakonam.

Swamimalai is the fourth Sacred Shrine among the six abodes of Murugan Temples. We personally connected to this holy shrine. Each and Every time we visit here, it gives us immense pleasure and peace of mind. At 6pm , Lord Muruga will be decorated in Raja Alangaram which is an additional feast to our eyes. Tasty prasadham served near the ticket counter. Apart from Lord murugan's festival , Vinayaga chaturthi too celebrated in grand manner. Kids love to walk around the temple and it gives us hope and we get back to home with new good spirit. Only concern is too many beggars outside the temple area who always disturb or give curse if we don't donate. They have separate place for mudan ceremony or people who wish to donate hair, Overall Divine Experience.
