One of the largest hotels in Hualien, which meant it was more standardized. We had ocean view family room— two large double beds - for two adults three kids. We put the two arm chairs together and made it a bed for our youngest. The room was of decent size, not overly generous, but not tight either. Bathtub was nice to have. Beds comfortable though pillows as always in Taiwan seem to be too “full”, not sufficiently soft.
Playroom at 8th floor was more for babies and toddlers. But our kids are old enough to use the hot pool/spa facility (segregated by sex) so we did, and while it wasn’t a natural hot spring, it was nice to use it like the Japanese do — after a wash and dipping in it naked, without swim suits (which seem to be the norm in Taiwan).
The hotel breakfast buffet was a good spread— we had it only on one day.
Lakeshore hotel is a distance away from the main buzz of Hualien town, but taxis are plentiful and cheap.
Our stay wasn’t cheap, but it was decently priced for our family of five.
Jia Curry down the road was v good, and so was the famous squid /seafood rice noodles just opposite the hotel. 7-11 nearby. Laundromat at basement of hotel also v useful for dirty hiking clothes.
If I could do it all over again, I might just skip this and stay in Taroko Park itself! Hualien unfortunately is quite depressing and depressed. Not half as lively as Jiaoxi.
