We arrived at Casa Oliveiras do Douro, late afternoon April 17th, after a lovely ride from Seville, Spain. The location of the property is off the beaten path and just what we wanted. The village is charming and the residents very friendly.
When we arrived we were greeted by the family - which is a treat since we seldom meet the owners of the properties we rent. They are the epitome of Portuguese hospitality. We chatted, shared a glass of Port and they shared some history about the house and their family.
Eduardo, walked us to the town cafe where there is internet and introduced us to the owner. While we were concerned at first that we would have no internet, it really wasn't a problem. It was nice to disconnect for a few days.
Since there were no markets in the area we were grateful they left some delicious cheese, bread and jam. There was also coffee, tea and milk to start our day. We could not have asked for a lovelier home.
The kitchen is well equipped and the house immaculate. It was the best sleep we had while travelling this trip! The beds and bedding were great! The property has a lovely yard and wrap around porch, where we sat in the mornings and evenings to begin and end our day.
While the location might be considered remote by some, it was extremely convenient to accessing different points of interest in the Douro.
Our only regret is that we did not stay longer than 4 nights.
Thank you Eduardo for sharing this wonderful home with us!
