Great service from Joyce and Johan across Lake Hauroko at the end of the Dusky Track. The booking process was easy and they were quick to respond to my phone message (they are often out of signal on the lake/river) and by email. It's a great service for trampers in the area and I liked that Joyce always takes the time to note in the hut book when she will be back next, so that any trampers who have not booked will know when to expect the next boat (they only run the trampers service if they have booking so definitely call ahead).
I was also lucky enough to experience the jetboat ride down the Wairaurahiri all the way from Lake Hauroko to the South Coast! This is an amazing untouched part of fiordland which is fantastic to explore by jetboat as you can be the only people for miles around - much more of a wilderness experience that any other jet boating I have done around Wanaka and Queenstown.
Highly recommended for both track transport and as an activity in this stunning corner of NZ!
Hi,
Thanks for your kind words. Its great to get feed back on our Dusky track service and the Wairaurahiri Jet, Thanks:-)
Hopefully we will see you again some time
Safe travels.
Warm Regards
Johan and Joyce.
Well worth the money and a thrill to be where it would take me days to walk there and back. Lovely couple. Delicious venison and salads for lunch. Learnt about NZ birds bush and conservation. Best way to go out for lunch in all New Zealand.
Hi,
Thanks for your comments,
Boating in and out sure does save time on the legs:-)
I hope you come back sometime.
Safe Travels and thanks for your kind words.
This boat trip was every penny worth it! It is a 6 hours trip over the deepest lake in New Zealand and then down the Wairaurahiri river with a few stops a long the way. We were able to spot a deer and learned about the protection work in the fjordland areas. We were stunned by the BBQ venison lunch down at the waitutu lodge, Johan is a really good host and cook. We had a marvelous time and would highly recommend their tour! Especially if you're not keen on crowded and busy places. The river tour has everything New Zealand nature has to offer.
Hi.
Thanks so much for your kind words
Johan is a great host.
His enjoyment of the area, he gets to call his office, shows with his passion for the wild Wairaurahiri and the surrounding area.
Thanks again for your review.
Kind regards and safe travels
Joyce and Johan
Fiordland turned on a beautiful day as we set of with Johna after a cancelation of our trip by his opposition Paul luckily for most of our group we were able to reinstate our plans. The lake was at its best and Johan is so informative about the flora, forna and history of the area and the lake it made for a wonderful start. Exhilarating is the only word to describe the ride and thank heavens for our expert driver. A stop on the way to walk, bird watch and check the stoat traps. The lodge was big warm and comfortable and after a meal of venison supplied by Johan we were all very happy customers.
Hi,
Thanks for your kind words, I can't apologize enough for the false cancellation, maybe a review on Humpridge Jet Wairaurahiri Adventures, trip advisor might prevent him from doing it again and save others from his dodgy ethics
I'm pleased it all worked out in the end :-) Johan is so passionate about the area
Hopefully your friends that had altered their plan will be back sometime:-) so we can show off our wonderful area that we call our office.
Warm Regards

We had booked to travel with Johann but rang a number given to us for Paul whom I thought worked for Johann. I was told that the river was too low so the trip was off. We sadly accepted that we were going to miss out on this much anticipated trip so changed bookings and readjusted our travel plans. Our party of twelve met for a final meal together and Johann rang to say he'd checked out the river and the trip was on! Paul was his unscrupulous opposition!! What a predicament. Again eight of us were able to revert to our previous plan but four had already paid substantial fees and couldn't change again!! This was so disappointing. Johann lost 4 fees the motels lost bookings and our party of 12 was unnecessarily broken up.
However the trip was brilliant. Johann was not just a rip and roar man but someone who was a passionate conservationist tending 230 stoat traps himself with the help of his wife, Joyce. He stopped several times on the journey showing us robins, South Island tomtits, mistletoe, rata trees- rare finds in areas where possums live. At the waitutu lodge where we all stayed the night Johann cooked delicious venison for us all and next day we retraced our trail stopping on lake Hauroko to enjoy the silence and watch mayflies hatching before returning to our normal lives
This trip was a never to be forgotten thrill so nearly missed out on! Thankyou to Johann for great memories. All the remaining eight of our party would thoroughly recommend you join Johann for the trip of a lifetime.
Thank you for your review. Unfortunately, your group have not been the only ones given incorrect information on occasion by Paul, of Hump Ridge jet / Wairaurahiri Adventures (and a variety of other trading names, web and e-mail address, no doubt to confuse and deceive.) Our Trading name has always been Wairaurahiri Jet, since 1994. I guess imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but the distress caused is of real concern to us. Legal redress for a small business like us, is too expensive. So we try hard to make our operation the best we can, along with maintaining our conservation efforts.
Thanks again for your review, Johan and Joyce.
This Jet Boat ride is the best we've ever seen. It is a 6 to 7 hour ride across Lake Hauroko for 10 KM then a 72 KM Fast thrilling ride down the Wairauahiri River to the Southern Ocean. Expertly driven by Johan with a BBQ lunch at the end & local information on Flora & Fauna. There is a guided walk along the way. I would recommend this to anyone.
Hi,
Thanks for your great review. I will pass on your kind words to Johan.
If your ever back this way I hope you can join us again for one of our adventures on the Wild Wairaurahiri River
Kind REgards
