We just returned from the 3-day Smoky Mountain inn-based hike. Our guide, Nicole, was fabulous - well prepared, fun to be with, aware of the varied needs of the group - not to mention her beautiful culinary masterpieces for breakfast and lunch. Over the course of three days, we climbed to Charlie's Bunion for amazing wide vistas across the mountains, walked for miles beside a rushing river, and walked behind a waterfall at the Grotto. We strolled through the historic Cades Cove where learned about the earliest human inhabitants of the area, AND we saw a black bear foraging in a meadow - probably our best wildlife spotting, but certainly not the only one. We also saw many deer, turkeys, and various rodents and insects, and a snake. The wildflowers and flowering trees were beginning to bloom and the colors were amazing.

When we came off the trail at night, we were treated to sumptuous meals at the Dancing Bear Cabins - where there is a bistro boasting a menu you won't find in many of the best "foodie" cities, let alone in tiny Townsend, TN. The food was surpassed only by the most comfortable bed ever - might have had something to do with being exhausted after a day of hiking and a fabulous dinner. We were sad to see out time there come to an end.

One last day of hiking and a short drive back to our starting point, Asheville, NC, brought us to the end of a truly delightful weekend getaway. I would highly recommend Wildland Trekking, this trip and our guide, Nicole to anyone considering a Smoky Mountain weekend. You will not be disappointed!

This was my third trip with Wildland Trekking and they all have been fantastic experiences. Dan Reinis was our guide on my most recent hike in the Shining Rock Wilderness Area in April 2018. Dan was great. He is very knowledgeable, experienced, and patient. Plus he is a pretty good cook! I would definitely recommend Dan and Wildland Trekking anytime.

My husband and I just finished a three day, inn-based hiking tour of The Great Smoky
Mountains National Park. We used Wildland Trekking Company. We had used them in the past when we went to the Grand Canyon. We were delighted with the entire trip. They are extremely well-organized, sent us lots of information about the trip, making sure we were prepared. Our guide, Nicole Will, was phenomenal. She has friendly, attentive and so knowledgeable about the history of the area. She planned out our daily hikes, taking advantage of changes in the weather for better vistas. The cabins we stayed in overnight were quaint and comfy. After a long 8 mike hike, the warm shower was so good. Nicole went above and beyond. My husband and I are vegans and the selection of food in the immediate vicinity would have been limited. Nicole cooked us incredibly delicious meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. During our hikes we had Green Goddess quinoa bowls, healthy sandwiches, fresh coffee and snacks. For breakfast she made us tofu scramble and oatmeal. For dinner we had miso glazed tempeh with roasted root vegetables to name a few. We ate better than we would have had we gone to a local restaurant. The trip was exactly what I wanted. Lots of physical activity, lots of outdoor time, really seeing the Smokies (including three bears), amazing food, and learning some history. I will definitely use Wildland Trekking again.

What an awesome trip. Dan is the man and knows everything you could possibly know about Appalachia. Its crazy how good the meals are in the back country. Dan could be a world class chef if he ever decides to leave the hiking business. Had a great time and would highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a guided trip through Appalachia.
