“Wonderful experience”

We've stayed in many gites and apartments in the Luberon and Vaucluse and this has to be the most charming. The kitchen is well outfitted, bed and linens are superior, bathrooms are well appointed and there is plenty of room inside and outside. Its a unique layout because it is positioned in a tower of the old ramparts which adds to the views and enhances the experience. Pippa is on top of everything and the town of Sablet is a classic small village with all the services one needs. We'd give it more stars if possible.
Not for anyone with mobility issues.

“A charcterful house in a fascinating village surrounded by beautiful countryside.”

The house is unlike any I have stayed in. It is built within the medieval defensive walls of the hilltop village of Sablet. It has enormous character, yet is extremely comfortable and equipped to a high standard. The courtyard is a great asset to enable you to eat and relax outdoors. The views from the house and the village ramparts, a few yards from the property, looking across at vineyards and neighbouring villages, are amazing. Being in Sablet is like stepping back in time. The winding narrow streets are fascinating. There is a lovely old church at its centre with a clock tower that chimes the hours. You can walk round the old part of the village in a few minutes, and yet the handful of shops and restaurants mean that you are not cut off and have everything you need. I had planned to visit lots of famous places in Provence, but I was so drawn to the peace and tranquillity of Sablet and its surrounding villages that we were happy to stay in the vicinity without going too far away.

Being a hilltop village, Sablet has many steps/staircases, which is part of its character. If you have limited mobility you should consider how you will manage, but this applies to many of the old villages in the area.

Making the letting arrangements with the owner was easy. She responded very quickly to all my enquiries.

The free calls to UK landlines was a great bonus.

I would gladly go back to La Tour des Anges.

“a great base in a wonderful area”

Our host , Pippa, from the moment she met us in the "Café des Sports" until we left could not have been more helpful and accommodating. We very quickly fell into a blissful routine of visits, cold Rose, delicious cheap meals, sublime Reds, vineyard walks, and the rhythm and atmosphere of lovely Sablet. There is so much to enjoy in all the surrounding areas so get there, immerse yourself, and enjoy!.....It was always a joy to come back to the Tour des Anges each day. It was warm and cosy on the chillier evenings and perfect when the sun shone for "alfresco" living and staying cool on the hottest of days. It has everything you need for a perfect stay in Provence.

“Another perfect, relaxing break in La Tour Des Anges”

This was our 2nd year at Pippa's beautiful home in Sablet. We felt even more at home this time round, settling into local life from the minute we arrived. Pippa as always is the perfect host, always on hand should you need anything whilst equally giving you the privacy you want. Put simply La Tour des Anges is, (in my opinion), the ideal base to explore the area. Within minutes from the house you can be walking or cycling through vineyards to one of the local villages, or driving down one of the winding roads to visit a nearby market, or visiting one of the many caves to sample delicious wines - heaven. We are already planning our next trip! A totally relaxing break away from the stress of every day life. Thank you Pippa once again for everything

“A Truly Unique Vacation Home in a Quaint Provencal Village”
Reviewed 9 September 2013 for a stay in August 2013

La Tour des Anges, built into the old fortress wall and watchtower of Sablet, is a very comfortable, clean, and well equipped home that made the perfect base camp for our one week stay in Provence. All the basic shopping, restaurant, and pub needs are within a five minute walk. A bonus is the Sablet Tourism Office samples and sells wines made by the local vintners so a great variety of reasonably priced wines is always available. After our day's activities (wine tours, Avignon, Pont du Gard, cooking class, local villages, etc) were finished, we always enjoyed returning to "our" house and sitting outside in the courtyard or in the living room.
We found Sablet to be a very quiet un-touristy village and that the villagers were very friendly.
If you are looking for a quiet getaway that is the ideal base camp for Provence, book a week or two at La Tour des Anges.

Liked best: The unique setting and the fantastic location
Liked least: My elderly family member commented on the number of stairs within the village and house. While not a major issue for us, some people with disabilities may find it so.
