First a disclaimer: I reserve 5 ratings to truly extraordinary restaurants. This one is a solid 4 and, considering it is in Phuket, probably merits a bit more.
We booked a table for sunset and arrived 15 minutes before the sun sunk into the Indian Ocean. The location is great for that purpose and makes it ideal for a romantic dinner. You can also go with friends and family (other diners were on that plan when we were there) so the place is quite versatile.
They have a western and Thai menu and a very good wine selection; excellent considering it is Thailand. The wine is kept in a climate controlled cave so it is a good place to order wine despite the outside temperatures.
We ordered from the Thai menu (som tum with fried soft shell crab, grilled sea bass with chili paste, crabmeat curry). We started with a round Chablis and moved onto a dry-ish Gewurztraminer for the main dishes. All dishes were very, very good. The level of spice is toned down for western palates but the food is full of flavor and well balanced. In fact, although I love very spicy food, I found the level of spice great to enjoy the dishes with wine (my preference for very spicy food is to accompany with beer).
The setting is very nice and the service professional and attentive. The music was by a gentleman playing classic Spanish guitar. It was not the most accomplished player but, in the beginning, it added to the romanticism. However, after the first three pieces he started repeating which made me think he was a student of the guitar rather than a player. In any case, it was not unpleasant and the rest of the experience was such that we would definitively come back.
