The actual resort was too small nothing to do, the food was ok nothing to rave about menu does not change, and the villa was built beautifully but was just over crowded could of taken half the furniture out and put more cupboard space.in, also you had to catch a taxi into town just more expense when other resorts have free shuttle twice a day. been to Vanuatu 7 times this time a bit disappointed especially when it was not cheap to stay adults only resort.

The location was great and peaceful. The reef on the doorstep was fantastic and the layout of the resort was well done.
The service from Clare & Micheal and the staff was excellent and the overall experience was amazing.

Room tip: Choose a cabana if available as have more room and private

We stayed in February and were one of the last couple before the resort shut down for new works for a new cabana to extend the staying pleasure of those who discovered this beautiful place and environment.

Even though we were the only couple left in the resort, Richard and Miriam treated us well with their attention and warmth. The owners, Claire who greeted us with such deep warmth made the welcome family like. Michael her partner can be seen maintaining or setting up the new spa area on the private island which is a walk (at low tide) or swim. Easy.

The workmanship and eye for detail and the quality of their building is par excellence.

And what resort will bother to have a bucket of water with disinfectant to clean the snorkel masks? I made a mistake by dunking my used flippers thinking it was used to clean the sand off until I asked Michael what was the water bucket for? I was impressed. I think their gear must be the cleanest and freshest looking snorkel gear I have ever seen.

The food was excellent and you have to try the Laplap and other local dishes - order in advance. The beef is different to Aussie beef and I found it flavoursome. They rear cattle on the island owned by Japanese and exported to Japan. Food is organic and boy so flavoursome. All together a delightful experience and we bunkered down comfortably during cyclone Oma. So what if our slippers were blown about outside, and we had to move mats inside due to horizontal rain, we enjoyed the homeliness of the cabanas. Thank you Claire, Michael, Richard and Miriam for a lovely stay.

This review is so good, readers need to know we are not with the resort.
The down side is that there are only 3 beautiful cabanas - but then that is an upside ! for whoever gets them.

Start with owner manager Claire - When you step out of the taxi, you will meet the most informative and caring host. (At her request I cannot mention some of her unique, fantastic and helpful tips for life on Santo)

Her partner Michael is a the design and construction genius. He sources the wood for each bespoke cabana from Hawaii, the U.S, Vanuatu and parts unknown. Honey colored California redwood rafters, vanilla colored water resistant cedar ceiling planks, dark polynesian hardwood beams create a fresh, beautiful complement to the rainforest setting. I laid in bed each evening amazed by the intricacy of the spacious octagonal structure. Then they fitout the cabana with unique woven furniture to match the beauty of the cabana.. In your travels, you will not find comparable quality.

Staff - The owners treat the staff like family, so staff respond in kind to guests.

The Waterfront - clean sand leads to 5 reefs - 50 metres to 500 metres from the beach. So Sunrise built a large 4 head rainwater-fed outdoor shower by the beach . Each cabana also has an outdoor shower and the standard indoor as well.

The restaurant
Dinner - introduction to LapLap and other tasty Vanuatu dishes, as well, as fish, steaks, chicken, vegan, etc.
Breakfast - free, with fresh fruits, a fresh pastry or a quiche, fresh lime juice and coffee/tea.
Tusker beers all day
Happy hour (pina coladas have fresh coconut and pineapple juice)
Check out chef Francoise's daily specials. (PS - that ONE Trip Advisor average rating about the food is no longer,or never was, true)

Clean and tidy - 28 staff caring for 3 cabanas - need more be said !

Ambience - clean, intimate, relaxing
And don't take this lightly - there are invisible speakers around the paths and restaurant. The low music reflects the meditative power of rain in the forest and waves on the beach - light, flowing, transportive, and eclectic.

Conclusion - I will continue to travel the world, until I leave it. I rarely return to where I have been.
But i will make an exception for Sunrise Beach Cabanas
