The Real Journeys team were pros. Well-run cruise on the Fiordland Navigator, comfortable cabins, delicious dinner, and amazing views and experiences. The fiord area is a rainforest, so it's often wet and rainy, but we got some rain and some beautiful sunny time as well. Had a great group kayak outing the first day (others could go out a tender boat if they didn't want to paddle). Thank you Real Journeys!

Fantastic day - and it was raining! Every step of the three parts to the cruise on doubtful sound extremely well run with passengers comfort and ease a priority. We stayed overnight at Te Anau and drove (20 mins) to Manapouri in the morning. Cruise across Manapouri informative and a great start on the beautiful lake. The coach trip over the Wilmot Pass was full of things to see - lush native and untouched forest with spectacular waterfalls (big advantage of rain) . From Deep Cove we went out to doubtful Sounds. Boat was three tier and very warm and comfortable. We had fun stationing ourselves up too, second story and out front deck for photos and sight seeing then inside for a cups/ lunch and to regroup. Because we had rain there were water falls everywhere . Even saw some
Penguins ( unusual this time of year) both teenagers had a ball and this is a trip we will remember for a long time to come. !

My husband and i did an overnight on Milford about 8 years ago so this visit I suggested to my sister that we do Doubtful. We drove to Manapouri on a spectacular sunny morning from QT stopping along the way for coffee, breakfast at a delightful little food van near the roadside.
We caught the boat across the lake and then bused to the Sound. At that point weather was still stunning so great views.
We were in quadshare room and share bathroom which was ok for one night. Make sure u are up early eg around 6am, shower and grab a coffee and head out on deck, spectacular, quiet and if lucky, stars are out. It started raining as we were having breakfast so views gone but it provided fast flowing waterfalls.
Food was good and we shared a table with fellow travellers. Staff were fabulous, very professional and insightful about location.
Overall great experience and highly recommend.

Initially we were disappointed that our planned trip to Milford Sound was overbooked, and thought Doiubtful Sound would be a poor 2nd, but that's very definately not the case.
On checking, Dounbtful is significantly larger, quieter and less 'touristy'.
Everything worked well, the cruise across Lake Manapouri...coach trip over the Wilmott Pass, then arrival in Deep Cove and the overnight cruise itself.
Yes, the cabins are a bit small (but it's only for one night!), and the food isn't exactly restaurant standard, but you're experiencing nature in a remote location where wildlife abounds. The weather is fickle, and on our trip it tipped it down but the upside was the spendour of the waterfalls - absolutely fabulous!
The running commentrary and general helpfulness and friendly manner of staff made the journey.
Thoroughly recommended, but don't forget your waterproofs and a sense of humour if your fellow guests are like the ones we shared our trip with!
