Stayed at this hotel for four nights in Dec 10 as part of a Leger coach tour to the Tirol over the Christmas hols.

It's a new build - so new in fact that it doesn't show on a great many hotel directories on the web. My wife and I found the accommodation to be fine - our room was spacious, clean and in a good state of repair. The common areas were of a similar standard, and certainly the standard of this hotel was typical of three star accommodation across the Tirol and Southern Germany.

Service? This hotel primarily caters for tour groups, and it's clear that the proprietor has been screwed down on the block booking rates, possibly to a point where there's little in it for him - as a result the place runs short-handed, ie some nights only one person (the proprietor's daughter I think) to wait on a full dining room of 70 guests, which included taking drinks orders and delivering these from the bar (although she did a sterling job).

Food? The restaurant does not offer a menu service, and if you book half board (half pension) you will be served what is being prepared that evening. All of the evening meals we were provided with were four courses (soup-salad-main-dessert) and of a good standard. The exception was the scheduled "specially prepared turkey Christmas dinner", which turned out not to be special or turkey (the consensus was that the unidentified cuts actually served up were lamb) - despite many guests and the tour driver querying this with him, Herr Schraber insisted that what he had served to his guests was turkey. If he genuinely believed that he needs to find another butcher. As it happens, the roast turkey that was paraded around the dining room before the meal was served (complete with burning sparkler) was still sitting, uncut (and unrefrigerated), in the kitchen the following morning? Hmmm . . . .

Bar prices? EURO 2.60 for a 0.5l of beer, which is typical of the region, but soft drinks are expensive - 0.5l of coke costs EURO 3.00, so it costs more to drink coke than beer, (which can't be right) - something that will sting if you're travelling as a family group with children. I know this is also common in the UK, but knowing what the stuff costs wholesale puts such prices in the ripoff bracket.

Other stuff? Some nights the when the hotel was fully booked with two coach parties the hot water ran out at during times of high demand (the hour before dinner). If you weren't quick into the shower the best you could expect was tepid. Apparently there's a 5,000 litre hot water tank fitted, so even if 70 guests use 30 litres each there should still be sufficient capacity to cope. I suspect this was more to do with saving on the electricity to heat the water than capacity, as was switching the heating off to all of the guest rooms during the first day when guests were out touring - too bad for the poor lady who was ill and remained in bed all day (needless to say she wasn't impressed).

Prior to leaving I asked Frau Schraber the cost of a room if booked independently, and I was told EURO 35 and 45. B&B here at EURO 45 per night for a double, I think seems about right for the location and standard of the accommodation offered. As such, and on balance, I would stay here again if I was looking to spend a few days in the Tirrol again.
