We have just returned from a wonderful week at Casa Violeta. We fell in love with the place from the start. In fact on the first morning we woke up and started wondering if we would be able to visit again. We began to worry that with so many returning visitors, it might be difficult, so we booked for next year before we got out of bed !
We arrived to a warm welcome from Mags and Ian, and a fantastic welcome pack. It was pouring with rain, but later when it stopped we had a swim, then sat in the hot tub listening to the birds and enjoying the uninterrupted views. The log fire in the evening was very welcome on the cooler evenings.
It was showery most of the first day but we put the outside canopy up and sat watching the sky change. The pool was just right at 23 C and we used it every day. The views from the house are amazing. It looked lovely in the photos online, but it isn't until you get there that you realise there is a nearly 360 degree view over beautiful countryside. Almost all of it is not overlooked at all.
The garden is full of birds, there were golden orioles, owls at night, and nightingales singing in the valley below. We spent a good deal of time doing not very much. We were also pleasantly surprised how many walks we could do directly from the house. It was lovely to spend whole days without using the car. The flowers are spectacular this time of year and the whole valley is humming with bees.
We had spent a week on the coast before coming to Cova da Muda and some of our favourite places are only a short drive away - in particular Praia do Barril and Olhao. We really enjoyed a ferry trip to Culatra from Olhao.
Sao Bras de Alportel market was fun and we stocked up on local food as we love to cook. We had barbecues on several evenings. There are some restaurants close by too - we love traditional Portuguese cooking rather than the more English fare often found on the coast.
The house itself is perfect. Very well stocked with everything we needed, including books and DVDs. We barely switched the tv on though, as we could not drag ourselves away from the views. We are looking forward to next year.
Casa Violeta surpassed all of mine and my wifes expectations. The Villa was very well stocked with everything you could possible need and we particularly liked the added extras that we didnt think we needed, like the big fluffy dressing gowns. Mags welcome pack was excellent, after a long flight with a toddler and a late arrival, this allowed us to put our son to sleep grab a bottle of wine and relax in the hottub on the first night. All the areas around the villa were each gated and safe for our son to play outside without us worrying that he might fall in the pool etc.
