People seem to judge hotels on the strength of their WiFi signal these days and forget about hospitality.Fortunately La Romantica has not forgotten how to look after their guests, from the minute we checked in it felt like a home from home.We were given a suite despite only booking a normal double room,it was a huge room with fabulous views of the sea and mountains including Mount Teide in Tenerife.I can concede that the bathroom and decor is a little dated but everything was clean and all very much in the rustic Canarian style of the hotel. The breakfast was great value with plenty of choice,it was worth the €4 just for the lovely coffee. The restaurant had an extensive menu with something for everybody, the fillet steak was delicious. It was my birthday while we were there and the staff all wished me a happy birthday and in the evening we were treated to glasses of cava and cake, which all added to a memorable day.

The storm had been raging all day and we were relieved to see the sign for Hotel La Palma Romantica appear through the torrents. I parked our little red car, grabbed our bags and made a dash for reception.

Check-in was quick, friendly and ended with the receptionist escorting us to a very large room with a balcony, fridge, good bathroom and TV. I'm certain it would have had an amazing view on a less stormy day.

The hotel reminded us of an Alpine lodge hotel. It is a tad faded but it is clean, well equipped with a small spa and pool, very friendly and welcoming.

Due entirely to our harrowing drive along winding roads, and exceptionally for us, we decided to visit the hotel bar where we discovered a couple of full wine glasses that were simply desperate to be emptied. We also discovered the owner who regaled us with facts and stories of La Palma.

Having dealt with the wine, we headed for the restaurant. The food was very good although there was not a huge vegetarian choice. The super friendly waiter was Fawlty-esque in his demeanour; very entertaining!

We recommend this hotel.

Would I go back to La Palma Romatica?... Yep; Yep; Yep; Yep!

We really enjoyed the slightly old fashioned vibe of this hotel. It's situation is high up in the mountainous north of La Palma so the views are spectacular as are the stars at night. Mostly German guests but that is La Palma. Comfortable room and bed. Would definitely recommend.

This hotel has many amenities that on paper look good.. It is a little dated. The staff are very helpful, however they need to catch up on Wi-Fi which is only available in the public areas downstairs. Although the hotel one does show up but you’re “not allowed‘ access!
Unfortunately, the food is very average. It’s like being back in England with meat and two veg, and the veg is out of a tin. No imagination, very boring.
Overall there are far better places to stay without the pretensions of “luxury“

The buildings and furnishings are nice and comfort but a bit dated. Dinner and breakfast were fine but nothing special. The service was very good and we got helpful advice about walks. They provided pack lunches.
