We decided to book this villa because of its stunning location, but also because of its close proximity to the beautiful town of Rethymnon. The booking process was easy and efficient and the owner/manager? Giorgos spoke excellent English so there was no language problems. Directions were easy to follow, and when we arrived at villa Amygdalia we were blown away by the stunning views, not just across towards Rethymnon, but also the surrounding olive groves which were full of wild flowers, and all we could hear was the birds singing - just wonderful and just what we were looking for.
The villa has everything that you could possibly want, and the owner has put a lot of thought and effort into making sure you have everything for a comfortable stay. The kitchen was so well equipped, with ample crockery, cooking utilities and pots and pans - there was also a lovely BBQ with a variety of BBQ utensils as well, which we made use of.
The villa also has WIFI which we found very good and a TV with satellite but we didn't use either as we wanted an "away from it all" break and with that view who needs TV :-)
The bathrooms were both roomy and well equipped with soft towels and ample hot water no matter what time of day, and with good powerful showers too - and the lovely complimentary bath room toiletries were a nice touch.
Our master bedroom was stunning with its antique furniture, pretty views and a lovely veranda which we enjoyed sitting out on for our morning cup of coffee, and bed was one of the most comfortable I have slept in away from home.
The old village of Maroulas is just a 5 min drive away and very pretty with a good choice of tavernas, and a lovely church too, there is also a supermarket just a couple of minutes drive away from the villa. We enjoyed eating in some of the local tavernas in the village during our stay and in particular Thavma, and Fantastiko - both served excellent food and amazing views too, I do recommend visiting Fantastiko for the sunset - very special.
We did venture into Rethymnon as we love the old town, and hubby didn't want to drive so a local taxi charged us 12 euros for the 15 mins drive into the town and beach.
I would have no hesitation returning to this villa, in fact we are looking at the possibility of booking next year as a large family group as this villa has three other adjacent villas which are all managed by the same guy
