There is no finer place to stay in the Barolo wine region than the Felicin Ristorante Albergo Dimora Storico in the breathtakingly beautiful town of Monforte d’Alba which is just 4 miles from the famed wine towns of Barolo (noted for its great Nebbiolo-based wines) and Dogliani (noted for its wonderful Dolcetto wines) but also just 9 miles from bustling Alba and another 9 miles to Barbaresco, also noted for its Nebbiolo-based wines. But the Felicin family hotel, offering stunning views of the vineyards below, is as remarkable as the wines that this commune produces.
This 4-star hotel in the Felecin family for nearly 100 years is located just steps from the town’s plaza in a town of less than 2000 residents. Nino and members of his family were incredibly hospitable, making us feel very much at home, while Nino surprised us at each meal with his superb culinary skills. After some 30 visits to Italy, this hotel/restaurant in every respect is among the finest in all of Italy. Would we visit again? Of course, we would. Sonoma Tom
