“mezzanine layout didn't work for us”
Reviewed 22 January 2012 for a stay in August 2011

The accomodation was ok, however due to the fact it was an open mezzanine layout it caused some major problems for us. This was not described in the accomodation listing which left us somewhat dissapointed. I travelled with my wife and 18 month old daughter who likes her routines. As my little girl likes her routines and likes her naps the open layout did not work for us as we couldnt make a sound downstairs as any noise would have woken her up. In addition, when she went to bed at 7pm we had to sit in darknesss downstairs as switching the lights on or making noise would have woken her. Not ideal to say the least. In addition, the cooker was extremely old and took ages to warm up. No dvd player in the house only vhs which needs updating to be honest.

The good points were that the garden was amazing . My daughter loved the big garden and shed and playing with chickens, fish, goat and horse. The location was great as it was close to alot of the areas. The holiday home owners were very nice, however at one point they were having a party and because the accomodation is right next door it was loud and we had to be in tip toe to not awake our daughter who was sleeping. Another thing that was not mentioned was that there was another family living next door which we were not aware of. Me and my wife like to be on our own and being surround by 2 other families didnt really give us the privacy we wanted.

I think the description of the accomodation needs to be made clearer so that familys are aware of some of the issues we found. It wasn't a bad holiday home it just wasn't for us, due to the layout. Had we known this before we put a deposit down, we would have never booked.

Sorry to hear about your grievances, Sajad, 6 months after your stay with us at La Maisment. I thought I would take the opportunity to clarify a few points. The mezzanine layout is described in the “Further details indoors” section. Drawing the curtains makes the main bedroom dark and there’s a table lamp on the sideboard, a small light on the extractor fan or even candles to avoid “sitting in darkness downstairs” once it gets dark – not before 9.30 in the summer, when you can also sit outside and enjoy a glass of wine.
If there were problems with the cooker we would very much have appreciated you saying so at the time when we could have resolved any issues. We do ask our guests if everything is ok during their stay and we would definitely have a look at the cooker and replace it if necessary – our guests’ comfort and well-being is our priority.

We also lend a DVD player to guests who ask for one and have since replaced the VHS + large selection of cassettes as we realised DVD was more popular.

There is a second holiday home next door which is also mentioned in the property description, but both homes have a separate, private entrance, patio and garden, only sharing the car park and children’s play area.

We are sorry that the small gathering next door was a disruption for your family, we do try to respect our guests’ privacy at all times.

Many families with young children/toddlers have stayed in, and slept well, in La Maisment, with no problems - our other reviews and guests' book comments reflect this. Sorry that it wasn’t up to your expectations, we try to make our holiday homes as comfortable/well-equipped etc as possible.

“Great for kids!”
Reviewed 20 June 2011 for a stay in June 2011

We stayed a week at La Maisment, and thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. Perfectly positioned to explore Normandy, it is situated in a peaceful hamlet with all major routes close by.

The garden is well-equipped with lots of childrens toys, including a sandpit, and the garden is safe and secure... my daughter didn't want to leave the garden, and loved saying "hello" to the chickens in the mornings. The owners are extremely friendly and provide fresh eggs, milk orange juice and cider on arrival.

If you want a child-friendly cottage, this is the perfect choice!
