“The closest you'll get to heaven on earth!”
Reviewed 17 July 2017 for a stay in July 2017

This is the closest to heaven we've been! The house is literally in the clouds and the pictures of the view don't do it justice. The location in Atenas worked great for us - the town is easily accessible by car with good supermarkets and restaurants. All activities were within an hour and a half drive - all beautiful and gave us a chance to explore different areas. We did zip lining near Miramar, whitewater rafting near La Fortuna, surfing at Jaco beach, and also visited La Paz waterfall gardens. The house and grounds are BEAUTIFUL and comfortable. The views are constantly changing and never get boring. We visited during green season (rain) and the weather forecast was thunderstorms everyday, all day. We experienced sunny mornings thru 2pm when the clouds would roll up from the valley. The sky was clear on most nights by sunset. We were able to work on our tans, enjoy the pool and hot tub everyday. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need to cook - we cooked a lot and it worked great! The beds are SO COMFORTABLE and we all commented how it was the best sleep we've ever had! Temperatures at night are amazing and there is always a breeze blowing thru the house. The property managers Aad and Marian are great! They helped arrange all of our activities that were all top-notch. They assisted with airport transfers, rental car, and even arranged for dinner to be waiting for us upon arrival after a long day of travel. All of our needs were met and expectations exceeded - from initial communication with Miguel (owner) at booking, planning with Aad to final departure. This is a fantastic house and experience, and we plan to come back our next time in Costa Rica!

Dear Drew,
Thank you so much for your most wonderful review! We always tell our guests that no A/C is ever required at Casa La Frontera del Cielo, even at the height of summer. We also mention that Atenas and the surrounding attractions are, not only absolutely safe, but easily accessible from the property. All the same, we are certain that potential guests would rather hear it from previous renters! :-) Our house managers, Aad and Marian Veltman, certainly go out of their way to provide their airport pick-up, tour services and local recommendations in a timely, professional and friendly fashion. Our management team never tires of hearing that their efforts are paying off. Thank you for your kind words, and thank you for enumerating our property's highlights in such a thorough fashion. We hope you will give us a chance to provide another unforgettable experience for you in the future.
Muchísimos cariños,
La Familia Garcia

“Looks can be deceiving”

La Frontera De Los Cielos appears to be the perfect home; the ideal place to stay in while on vacation. However the residence although very scenic in photos is not necessarily as described and the renter and managers of the property can be a bit difficult to deal with after booking reservations. After booking our reservations we made several attempts to obtain an address and still to this day have been given the run around to obtain it. The owner and managers both justified this by stating that addresses in Costa Rica do not exist and later stated they were difficult to follow ( which is not completely false; being a Central American country the address is difficult to understand in comparison to American addresses). However after contacting other hotels we were told that of course there are addresses. It was difficult to create an itinerary without knowing our exact location; and when I contacted Homeaway and was given the owners direct number in regards to obtaining an address he specifically ask me "why I needed it" after explaining that I wanted to know to plan accordingly and to provide it to relatives in case of an emergency he exclaimed a bit annoyed that he "did not follow my reasoning." Addresses are important when you are traveling specially if it's a foreign country; in fact you need to provide this details to Customs; instead I got coordinate points. It was a bit scary specially since the owner and managers insisted on a cash deposit of $600 ( which homeaway and AirBnB advise against; and it was to be given down the block from a supermarket; making it sound incredibly shady; however we did receive the $ back in 2 separate installments through PayPal ). In order to pick us up the managers who are the owners suggested tour guides were charging us $53 from the airport; not free as their advertisement through homeaway advertises. The tour guide/manager (Aad) is incredibly rude and difficult to deal with he responded to the request of the address and airport pickup with a very poor attitude and cause a lot of stress as we were departing; making it hard to cancel our reservations. It is not the "ONLY" house with the spectacular views of the pacific and mountains; in fact you will find that while in Costa Rica a majority of the places to stay in have the beautiful and spectacular view ; specially in Manuel Antonio where you get the beach with the mountains and monkeys that visit. The infinity pool is solar heated; so during the rainy season it can be a bit cold. There are a few trees that produce fruit as describe ( mangos and limes) but none that produce guavas, bananas and/or coffee. You will definitely have the opportunity to listen to the beautiful sound of birds around the area as well as the very loud barking of wild dogs near the area; and since the sheets are outdated and incredibly rough, smelly, and stained you will be up enjoying the sound of them undoubtedly. The jacuzzi is available for use however the engines don't always work, so besides the use of the hammock and the patio table there is not much to enjoy from the pictures and as described. The house is an architectural marvel; very rustic and beautiful in sight; yet the layout is not fitted for 4-6 people as described. The house has no Air conditioning so when the nights are hot/muggy it's difficult to sleep; specially in the main bedroom where there is only a ceiling fan that makes an incredible hard sound when powered on; making it feel like it is about to break at any moment. The guest room has full size beds not Queen size beds and also the ceiling fan makes a lot of noise ; however there is a floor fan that is provided. The "guest house" is the servants headquarters; when we arrived the door lock was broken and despite our early 3 month reservation this was not fixed; the manager told us it would be fixed within 2 days if we desired but it was never done; so evidently sleeping there made us feel uneasy. The shower at the "guest house" had no power and left us sharing the other bedrooms bathrooms which were in good condition. The upstairs was a very cute small area where one could do some leisure activities; however the "reading room" although it had much potential use was not being maximized and rather than having the servant headquarters as a room this area has great potential for guest ( since it's the only area with views on both sides of it). All the beds in the house are very old and the springs can be felt. The kitchen area is very comfortable and they do provide a reasonable amount of dish ware; pots, pans, and utensils in case that it's needed. The house is far from other main locations for tourist and because it's lack of comfort it force us to have to stay at a hotel 2 out of the five nights we reserved for; which the owner did not want to refund anything for as a courtesy despite our kind request of it. I DO NOT recommend this house as a matter of fact I suggest looking into the sources that have posted the positive reviews for accuracy because it was mentioned that some of the guest who have posted reviews are in some form connected to the owner.

Hi Michelle,
Wow! Our family, the Veltmans, and the rest of our management team, who have made Casa La Frontera del Cielo into a rental property that has provided outstanding Costa Rican experiences to hundreds of guests over the past five years (as evidenced by the 80+ positive reviews our property has garnered on websites such as vacation rentals by owners) to this date, thank you for your patronage of our rental property and for the effort you put forward in your review. Having said that, and taking into account our personal and thorough knowledge of our own property, we have to conclude that your review is a deeply flawed product. Responding to all of your distortions - including the outlandish and non-sensical ones such as that we refused to give you an address (you stayed at our property but we have yet to provide you with the address, really? :-) ), that the casita “is the servants headquarters”(?!), and that we “advertised free airport pickup” (please check the listing, we clearly state that there is a fee if you chose to avail yourself of this option) - one by one, and recounting with all the details how you turned down our immediate offer of having a technician go by the property to take a look at the shower in the casita, or that we clearly told you that the jacuzzi could not be left running unsupervised all night (as you did on more than one occasion even after being reminded) as it is an eco-friendly natural gas system that will run out if you do that, would take too much space. Suffice it to say that the result of the sum of your distortions is an unfortunate misrepresentation of our property and our management style. We would, again, refer any potential guests to our other 82 reviews for both a more accurate depiction of Casa La Frontera del Cielo, and a less biased one of our wonderful property managers, Aad and Marian Veltman.
Sincerely,
The Garcia Family

“Tremendous view”
Reviewed 13 February 2017 for a stay in January 2017

The view from this house is fantastic. The house is beautiful and well maintained. We stayed for two weeks and would have liked to stay longer. The managers (Aad and Maryanne) were very nice and helpful. The gardener and maid did a great job. It is a short drive to Atenas and about an hour to the beach. We would go back tomorrow!

Dear Gary,
Thank you so much for your wonderful review of Casa La Frontera! As we have previously remarked, we are truly lucky to have Aad and Marian managing our property and personally handling all our tours, as well as Marvin to take such good care of the plantation house's grounds. It definitely always makes us happy when we hear our guests take pleasure in Casa La Frontera del Cielo's unique architecture as well as its stunning surrounding rainforest and Pacific ocean views! We would absolutely love to have you back.
Warm regards,
The Garcia Family
