Amazing relax

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 3 Oct 2014
The place is new and comfortable. We arrived late and the girls at reception in lobby were very kind. An electric car bring you to your building in this huge resort. We arrived at our room and the magnetic card open on a huge room, clean and easy to use, with central bed and jacuzzi on the terrace. Our Room was close to the seaside were you could use one of the free positions. The swimming pool is very comfortable and the water is hot so you could swim also during night. The breakfast was free but chinese style, so I like but consider it if you travel here not ask for a coffee and a croissant. There are many resturants fresh and good along the seaside, with amazing seafood. a free bus pick you in the centre and there is a car service for your personal requests.

This once promising four star resort, located in a remote bay miles from Sanya, is now a filthy, run-down, derelict tourist trap, truly a sight to behold. We arrived late at night. On the way to our room, we passed by a potent stench emanating from the lobby toilet, onto an shabby elevator which hadn’t been vacuumed in a month, into a hall way which had a gigantic hole in the ceiling, past doors hanging akimbo on one hinge, past large patches of paint seared from the walls, along a trail of debris. It was like this place had survived the Blitz, but barely. The door to our room would not open until one of the more experienced guests demonstrated that you had to insert the card about twenty five times until you got a lucky green light – and then quickly slap the door handle before it went out. Apparently this the standard practice at the Shizhi. The lighting in the room was incredibly dim, which was a godsend. However, we could discern a brown scum at the bottom of the toilet, a cracked sink, dripping faucet, the pronounced odor of sewer, cobwebs festooning the walls and ceiling. Need I go on? After an hour or so in this hotel, you would not be surprised to find a dead body in the closet, well decayed. It was like this whole vast place was cleaned, maintained, and run by a little old blind lady and her arthritic husband. Early the next morning I watched a well fed rat scurry into the kitchen, a kitchen which only a rat could stomach. The grounds around the once rather grand swimming pool are overgrown and filled with trash. This place is so seedy and squalid that it becomes oddly fascinating, a tragic study dereliction, a post modern work of art. The hotel is surrounded by half built, upscale developments, now bankrupt and overgrown. Apparently Haitang Bay could not support the ambitions of its developers. The resort seems to cater almost exclusively to budget Chinese tour groups. The parking lot is filled with tour buses. Some of the tour groups may have been like ours, a “premiere” tour run by liars. You are trucked into this dump late at night after you are too tired to complain or revolt – and you leave eagerly early the next morning before the shock sets in.
