An easy walk for a couple of hours through an old gold mining track, through tunnels and coming across a waterfall.

Is definitely a charming walk along the old railway way.
Plenty of walking options to suit everyone from the 19km return trip to a 20-30 min return trip to the remains of the old workshops at the Ngakawau end.
A walk into the waterfall will have you venturing through tunnels admiring mini waterfalls and crossing a suspension bridge all the while being accompanied by cheeky little fanatails darting in and out of the trees beside you. The waterfall itself changes from being a fairly tame everyday waterfall to a magnificent roaring display depending on recent rainfall.
The Seddonville end of the track has the remnants of on old bath house and other mining activity including a sealed off mine entrance at the beginning of the track. It is also nice walk from here into the old mine site and a little further on to a mill site where you will find the remains of old boilers and log haulers.
Take care when crossing the railway lines at the Ngakawau, although they may look unused they are in fact in use several times daily

If you only do one walk in New Zealand, then this should be it.
The Charming Creek walkway is located about 20 minutes drive North of Westport.
It is relatively flat and follows an old mining/logging railway track beside a roaring river. There are lots of mining/logging relics, tunnels, waterfalls, swing bridges and stunning bush and scenery along the way.
The track is officially closed at the moment due to a rockfall, but we jumped the fence and managed to easily pass the rockfall - (make your own decision if you are keen to do this or not, but there were other people on the track as well)
Easy for kids - not too many steps.
Stay nearby at the Granity Ghost Lodge - awesome spot!

This tramp is a great day out. The scenery is stunning. We ignored the closure sign as we met a mountain biking couple who had just cycled the route. We thought it was hard enough to walk, but was more than worth the effort.
