Went here while on a road trip with my aged Father. We found the motel easily. Host was really helpful and cheerful. We had a comfortable stay and facilities were good. On waking there was a power cut to the whole village, so we could not have breakfast or coffee. So we had to drive for an hour back to Westport to get the brown liquid I need to start my day. No he motels fault.

Great place to stay. Very friendly owner, very comfortable chalet type unit, with all the amenities you need. Also if you like farm animals to look at here's the place for you. When we were here a couple of sheep had sweet little lambs on the hoof also the steer and cow seemed very happy, there is also two ponies in another paddock.

Stayed here for 3 nights over Easter - paid $150 per night for a 1 bedroom motel unit - the end one which was lovely. Everything was very clean, spacious and light and airy. I could easily live in this unit full time. Small kitchenette - 2 burners, microwave. No oven. Unit was warm with great views up the valley. Bed was comfortable. Good size bathroom with shampoo and soap. Laundry facilities were on site. Generally I would not pay $150 a night but not much choice this weekend and to be fair it was worth it for that extra bit of room and comfort. Would definitely stay here again. Owners helpful and friendly. Free wifi that worked well.

What a lovely surprise, just on the road as you drive into the ( town? Hamlet ! Village )
Yes it is quite small, but still has everything you need.
Back to the Motel, very good.We had a 1 bedroom unit , which are semi detached. But so cleverly designed you have a your own private garden. The unit is very large, in my opinion the largest I have stayed in.The large lounge has 2 settles big table with chairs and of course a kitchen. The front window overlook the countryside with the owners mixed animals in a small field in front of your units.Very clean, good bathroom with plenty of hot water.
The new owners make you very welcome and full of advice of the various natural attractions in the Area ( of course the Oparara Arches,a must see )
They do have a Laundry, not mentioned on the web site.
I highly recommend River Motel, Thank you Shona for making our stay so enjoyable.
The village does have a 4 square supermarket, a hotel / restaurant/ pub.
So a good place to go
