We have stopped here for lunch a couple of times. The food is great, I recommend the Tacos! The owners are Canadians, very nice and great to speak with. Great place overall!

We spent 2 nights here after our wedding. The owners Val and Ryan made us feel super comfortable. We loved the location and super laid back atmosphere. It was great sipping our coffee in the morning and playing games (available in the communal area).
Bar/restaurant area is spacious and inviting with lots of sunlight!

We arrived in Las Penitas with our 2 children, aged 3 and 5, to find our Airbnb had no water. It was hot. We were exhausted. We stopped in to the Lazy Turtle for some food, cold drinks and a spot to get a game plan together. The owners, Val and Ryan, were SUPER helpful. After a great meal, they offered to let us use one of their showers to get the family cleaned up and gave us plenty of helpful information as well. They were great our kids and both our son and daughter refer to their restaurant as "the place with the nice man and lady." We've reviewed plenty of places for the quality of the food or the atmosphere, but the folks at the Lazy Turtle get our kudos for the great food and just being decent, helpful, spot-on human beings. Check them out if you're in Las Penitas.

Wanderred over to the Lazy Turtle to try out their burger and it did not disappoint. Homemade patty, just enough lettuce & tomato and a side of yummy pasta salad. Had a couple of rum/fresh orange juices and have to say my day was complete.
I would eat here again and would say your trip to Las Penitas is not complete until you do.

This burger is one of the most North American burgers you will find. Not the best burger of all time (really people)....but darn excellent for Nicaragua.....land of rock hard, unseasoned, mini-meatballs on a tiny bun and not much else. We had the Canadian burger with real cheddar! (a small slice and we would have liked more but it was the real deal which is expensive here.) This fixed our burger craving for sure. Gallo Pinto is great but not everyday.

For us though the surprising star was the pasta salad.....and I am seriously NOT a fan of pasta salad. Loved it. Made with dill imported fresh (too fragile to grow here), mustard and homemade mayo. A generous portion of the salad meant we had a solid filling meal. The two burgers, pasta salad, 4 icy cold bears plus tip set us back $30 Cdn. Well worth it for a good taste of home-style fare.

We ate hear twice. We had nachos first time. Didn't love them but they were good for Nicaragua.

What had us coming back was the owner. Val was very friendly. Excellent North American style service with a smile - no waiting 45 min for your waiter and/or a beer. Plus she dishes out valuable information on Las Penitas and gave out lots of suggestions on other places to eat and how to take the bus to the next little town. Lovely lady.

The restaurant is only open until 8 pm and closed Sunday, Monday so her staff can go to school. It has a number of cabanas for rent but we didn't see inside them except to say the cabana area looked nice.
