Not my first time at Kanaani - and hopefullly not my last! This is a professionally run guesthouse which clearly cares about its guests. Clean and comfortable without being over-indulgent, great buffet-style food, friendly and caring staff and management, and the company of like-minded travellers - I wanted for nothing at Kanaani. Cost is about $22 per day, single room, and includes accommodation, breakfast and dinner. Wonderful value for money. Asante sana Sabine na wtu wa kazi.

We found Kanaani Guest house in Lushoto form their great Trip Advisor reviews and were not disappointed. The location, once you find it (but Sabine can provide great directions and indeed was great in responding to emails before we arrived) is beautiful and peaceful and having met other folk who complained about the noise of lodging within the town centre we were thankful. Sabine and the staff are friendly, helpful and attentive without being overbearing and the food is spectacular and plentiful, utilising the abundant local produce. The rooms themselves could use an overhaul being a little dated but that doesn’t take away from the lovely charming attention to detail that make the rooms seem like a little home from home. Would recommend to anyone looking to visit Lushoto who likes tranquillity and good food!

Thank you very much for your words. You are right, the noise around Kanaani Resthouse is quite different from downtown Lushoto: more like cows and roosters in the morning and chirping of crickets in the evening.

Our stay at kanaani resthouse was great. First we booked for few days only but soon we ended up staying for 2 weeks. The staff members were very friendly and welcoming and sabine, the owner, was always helpful. She knows the area and its people very well so she was able to help us in everything and always made sure we are happy. The food was delicious and the variety was also great. The location itself is beautiful, with a nice view over the mountains and with most attractions and highlights in walking distance. The rooms were very clean and had everything we needed. All in all i can say that if anyone wants to relax, breath fresh air and do some walking tours in a beautiful landscape, should definitely come here! but note: lushoto is small so there is no or almost no nightlife.

Really enjoyed this place. Amazing service. Sabine goes out of her way to make it welcoming and homely. Arranges bird or other guides and is up early to make sure it's all going to plan. Food excellent and snacks and tea is laid out ready for your return from a hot walk. Lovely terrace for eating with other guests and chairs outside rooms for relaxing and admiring the view.
Avril.

I stayed at Kanaani Resthouse in January 2015 for one night only. It was a little hard to find walking from the towncentre, but when I arrived, it was nice to find self service afternoon tea in the diningroom with some delicious sweats and nuts. It is situated in a quiet area and has nice views. I stayed in the dorm which is fine, but I was by myself. Might get a bit crowded if the lodge is full. The bathroom could do with some shades to make it more private, but everything works, so that is fine. The evening buffet dinner was very nice and so was the breakfast. The best I had in the Usambara mountains! Very friendly staff and good communication with the owner before booking.

Thank you for your rating! You are right, Kanaani Resthouse is located a bit uphill from downtown Lushoto. We recommend our guests take a taxi after they have arrived at the bus stand. So they will be at the hotel most comfortably within about seven minutes for only TSH 5.000. With littel baggage you can even take a motorcycle taxi ("bodaboda") for only TSH 1.500.
