We really enjoyed our stay here. Rooms are comfy, big and very affordable. The staff are all really nice and very helpful...booked us several hikes for half the price most tours wanted and even did our laundry for free! Meals are plentiful and also very reasonable. Would definitely stay here again if we went back to lushoto.

My partner and I left Kanaani only this morning and already I feel compelled to write a glowing review..
Situated a very pleasant 30 minute stroll from the centre of town through leafy woodland, the rest house has a great balance of being easy to access and yet perched peacefully in the hills where tranquility prevails.
The rooms are very comfortable with hot showers and lots of other little touches which make it a brilliant place to frog bags after a long days travelling.
The owners (Tanzanian husband and German wife) couldn't have been more accommodating and friendly and helpful.
It would be impossible to write a review of Kanaani without mentioning the food which is not only incredible but comes in such vast portions every breakfast (and dinner if requested) that you WILL leave stuffed. It's all cooked onsite by a small friendly team of local ladies and is offers a huge selection for veggies.
We stayed three nights in total. We went on a two night hiking and cycling tour with a local guide called Simon who comes highly recommended. We were put in contact with him by the German lady running Kadaani so ask to go with him (don't get ripped off by one of the tourist centres in town who will charge much more for the same excursions!).
All in all, brilliant value rest house. Highly recommended. (Like most places in the very hilly area of lushoto, it may be slightly tricky/muddy to get to if going in rainy season but this didn't affect our stay.)

This was my second visit to Kanaani and I was absolutely content with everything. Sabine is a wonderful host who is ever willing to help her guests. The accommodation is simple but clean and fulfilled my wish in every way. The rooms are spacious and have everything I needed - including a mosquito net on every bed. The buffet style food is caringly prepared and would satisfy the most demanding of guest I suspect. The views over the mountains are wonderful and generally, except for a few barking dogs at night, the place is peaceful. If you are looking for clean, comfortable and friendly accommodation that is good value for money, with a caring host, Kanaani should be your first choice.

We stayed in March for two nights at Kanaani Resthouse. The Resthouse is located a 5-10 minute car/motocycle ride out of Lushoto town. Driving through the green landscape already gave us a glimpse of the landscape in which Kanaani is situated. Arriving there we were welcomed very warmly by the local ladies, who work there. It seems that all staff that is employed at Kanaani (watchmen, cooks, cleaning ladies) know what customer service means. They were there for us when we needed them, had a friendly greeting and smile for us but highly respected our privacy.
The apartments are situated in a green scenery. All you can see is nature and trees and you can literally smell oxygen here while you sit on the terrace and enjoy the view.
The houses were clean and equipped with all that we wished for and even a little more. It seems that the owner, Sabine, keeps the possible needs of her guests in mind. We found shower caps, cotton buds, sanitary pads, toothbrushes and so on in the bathroom. What a lovely service! There was water, sweets and biscuits in the room when we came and a very warm welcome note with a description about the resthouse and possible activities. We had the opportunity to book Bed and Breakfast or full or half board. Two days half board allowed us to enjoy the delicious meals at Kanaani. Dinner consisted of a variety of dishes, all home-made. Rice, mashed potatoes, different stews with a large variety of vegetables. We sat with other guests on a big table and had long conversations in the evening while enjoying tea.
All day there was hot water for tea (a tea collection of around 15 tea types was there plus coffee) and delicious sweet bites were served during afternoon time.
The breakfast was as well very delicious. Home made bread, pancakes, home-made jams and avocado-dip prepared us well for our long hikes in the mountains.
The owner of Kanaani, Sabine, gave us helpful information and contacts for our hikes. She is very familiar with the area and recreational activities and was always up for a little chat.
The atmosphere at Kanaani was just so peaceful that I had such good night’s rests and woke up with the rising sun with a smile on my face.
It seems that this resthouse is very well managed by socially, economically and ecologically responsible people. You should come and feel the difference! For me it was a perfect weekend outside of the bustling city of Dar es Salaam that was easily manageable on a low budget.

I've stayed for 12 night here and liked it a lot. It's a bit out of town but in walkable distance (half an hour to 45min). The views are amazing, the staff very friendly and helpful and there's only one thing to complain about:
I was preparing for the Kilimanjaro Half Marathon and running every other day in the country side. Although the food is healthy there's just too much of it and also served in too short intervals. There's always food! After breakfast there's a "tiny" snack between lunch then another one after lunch and then it's already dinner time. I definitely gained some weight and if I'm performing badly (tomorrow is race day) I'll blame the staff and the management for it. It's not my fault that I can't control my appetite when they cook so well and so much.
