We stayed in the Owl for a week during the October half term. We travelled as a family of 3. Me, my husband and my 4 year old son.
The first impressions were wow! The cottages are beautiful , traditional stone cottages. The owl is huge inside with a large open plan kitchen, dining and living room. It's very bright and airy with several windows and French doors opening out onto the private garden with loungers and furniture.
The large bedroom is very comfortable and easily fitted an additional single bed in for our son. On arrival the cottage was immaculately clean and smelt gorgeous. I know the owners welcome dogs but there were no signs of stray dog hairs or any odours which is a pet hate of mine.
The owners Geoff and Tracy are so welcoming and really have thought of everything from the homemade scones, jam, bread ,eggs, milk, cider and beer on arrival; to the fully stocked cupboards with all the little things tea, coffee, salt, butter, washing liquid, cleaning spray, tinfoil, kitchen roll and sandwich bags. There is even a picnic hamper. The crockery, cutlery and bedding is of the highest standard and all looks new. The nespresso coffee machine was a great luxury! The heating was on making the cottage lovely and warm.
The owners made a fuss of our son whilst not being over intrusive. Little things like dressing up Mary the garden statue in her Halloween outfit, pumpkin stickers on the windows and pumpkin chocolates for him made him feel very special. Tracy had even made a huge chocolate birthday cake and put banners up celebrating my sons 4th Birthday which made his day when we arrived.
The grounds of the cottages are vast with a beautiful lake, with enormous fish and 2 extremely friendly ducks. Our morning walk to the lake to feed the ducks was a real highlight, my son loved that the ducks would follow him around the lake and the fish would pop up to say hello. We loved sitting in the summer house around the lake looking at the amazing view whilst enjoying a glass of wine from the fridge inside, it really was idyllic. Children will love the pre- historic dinosaur leaves which make for amazing hide and seek.
We were pleasantly surprised by the amount of space we had compared to previous Cornwall cottages that we have stayed in. The location is ideal we had some brilliant days out and tasty meals at various restaurants which again were all very child friendly which isn't always the case! Highlights include The Monkey Sanctuary, crabbing in Looe bay, flying a kite on the beach, Beautiful Polperro and on the steam train to Bodmin. Everything is never more than 5-10 minutes drive away.
If your thinking of staying here don't hesitate - you will have an amazing time, we did and will certainly be back.
Thank you Tracy and Geoff for a fantastic family holiday
