went here on a great deal with a voucher. I would never have known about this gem, tucked away about 30 kms from Taihape off the main road towards gravity canyon. We had the river retreat...a wonderful hideaway..very private and comfortable. Full kitchen (although the oven could use a good clean!), bathroom and a spa tub for two in the very large master bedroom with ubelievable views of the rongatiki river and the gorge. Really spectacular. There is a BBQ that we didn't use because of the wet weather and an outdoor covered spa tub that we did use. This is a really lovely place. The weather was not great and so the rafting trip didn't happen but I will return...next time with a special love to enjoy this with. Full price is a bargain for this wonderful retreat so will not wait for a voucher deal for the next time. No broadband or cell phone coverage but that only added to the ability to enjoy the couple of days in this magical place.

We were given a voucher to stay here when we got married, we finally made it a year later. It was well worth it, the location is like no other, spectacular views of the beautiful Rangitikei River. We arrived mid afternoon, hopped into the spa, relaxed and just soaked up the view. The deck is amazing, I took some wine and cheese and the next few hours were spent on the deck reading magazines. Dinner was included in our stay which was brought to our room, the main meal was good and the desert delightful. There is an old record player in there which we cranked up, we had another spa and a night cap before hopping in to our matching robes. A great night sleep and a sleep in and then we were off agin. Thanks so much Tarata for making our Wedding Anniversary so special, we recommend you all the time.

Truly wonderful accommodation situated at the top of the canyon with stunning views of the Rangitikei River. Steve and Trudi are truly wonderful hosts. Recommend the full day rafting and wilderness fishing down 14km of pristine clear flowing river. Superb sight fishing with the dry fly, Steve works hard to give you the best chance of catching a hard fighting rainbow and has plenty of dry humour to make the day entertaining. Great for the non fisher too with the spectacular ' Lord of the Rings' scenery and fun rafting.
Top a perfect day with a glass of wine in the spa with a view followed by Trudi's home cooking and what surely must be the best stay in New Zealand.
