Well worth the effort we were extremely lucky to have mostly fine weather and stunning views which included Tanegashima. The marsh area is reminiscent of the walls of Jerusalem walk in Tasmania. Simply beautiful and atmospheric with swirling mists. We've done a reasonable amount of walking but the progress on this walk was slower than I've experienced. You had to carefully consider every step - lots of rock hopping, walking down granite boulders, tree roots etc. The second day out after the hut walking past jomonsgi is much easier. Be warned you need an early start. We started 8am and got to the hut at 6pm. Everyone went to sleep by 7pm and woke about 5am or earlier. Totally different to Australia.
